Highland View Golf Course, Butte, MT

Played this course after not being out in about 3 years. It is all straight holes with no obstacles in the way. As the name suggests, all of the holes are par 3s. The only challenge is avoiding the divots and patches of dirt on the very squishy, slow greens. The fairway is poorly maintained as are tee boxes. They show large divots where players have abused the course and not replaced divots or filled them in with sand. The rough is inconsistent; it ranges from patches of fairly deep and somewhat healthy grass to large areas covered by weeds. Water hazards and trees are basically non-existent and those you do see are placed completely out of the way.

This course happens to sit in the middle of Butte, which isn't exactly the prettiest city in Montana to begin with. The best scenery is the view of the mountains surrounding Butte. A tennis court with loud children and a nearby road with discourteous drivers that will honk while you're swinging add to the unpleasantness of this course. The cheap prices of the Highland View Golf Course are not worth the torture of actually playing the course. If you have the time to drive 25-30 minutes to golf, go play Old Works in Anaconda or the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort course.
