The 18-hole "Dogwood's" course at the The Dogwood's Golf Course facility in Grenada, Mississippi features 7,015 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. Designed by Gary Roger Baird, ASGCA, the Dogwood's golf course opened in 2006.
This course has all the potential to be great but it is terrible. All of the sand bunkers have turned into weed bunkers. Fairways have several weeds. Half the greens are not in good shape. 3 to 4 tee boxes have more sand then grass in them. What makes it worse is that the city owns this course and a ridiculous amount of taxpayers money is spent on keeping this place a float. To top it off the manager is terrible toward players who make mistakes on the course. On the positive side the younger employees do a great job with customers.
I have traveled to this course many times driving 2 hours from Jackson,MS . Each time my friend drives from Memphis and we love the course . We usually bring friends to add to our group . We have always had a pleasant experience until today . My group spent well over $300.00 today at Dogwoods, greens fees , food , drinks , balls . We also let several groups play through because we had 5 players. Apparently ,there is a new Pro running the place and seemed like a nice guy until he kicked my group off the course in the ladder part of our round. We had a newcomer to the group driving his own cart , who has played maybe three times in his life . Several times, he drove the cart inside areas where carts were not allowed . He knew better , and the others in our group knew better and we should have corrected him several times. Later, the Pro drove up when our friend had his cart to close to a green. The Pro erupted saying we had to go. My friend who made the mistakes apologized and took the blame . The pro said well , you should have asked somebody! Now get moving !This upset me as I saw the pro over-reacting and showing his authority in a very rude, arrogant, and classless manner. I said Sir , I have not broken any rules , do I get a refund? He replied Hell no , and do you want to make more of it ? When we got back to the clubhouse , he was even more irritated , and told us we needed to grow up. When we responded to his behavior , he would say well , what are you going to do about it ? It was obvious that this PGA Golf Professional wanted to fight. Seriously ! Anyway , beware of Brutus the big bad golf pro at Dogwoods in Grenada ,MS . If you break a rule , you will not be warned , you will not be politely asked to leave , and you will be threatened to get off of his course or else !!! Obviously , our money will now go elsewhere .
