Since this course was taken over a few years ago the improvements have been nothing short of spectacular. Not only is this course breathtaking but it is in tip top shape and can play to a high degree of difficulty. The fairways are lined with extremely large hardwoods which make hitting straight drives imperative.

They are a little more expensive than other courses in the area, but i believe its worth it

This golf course, though having had several bad years, has been under new management for the last 3 years. In that three years I have seen the course come back to the rival the course that has seen touring pros play it, seen qualifing for most of the State and National Championships and it still presents the best golf course on the east side of Michigan, north of Wayne County. There is no more challenging golf course, more scenic, better conditioned course around. The 2008 season will welcome a new PGA golf Professional with many years of experience which will, no doubt contribute to a better management than in the past couple of years. Having been a member of every one of the local St. Clair County courses, BlackRiver is far and away the best we have to offer. As the Tour Director for the Golf Channel Amateur Tour here in Michigan, I have chosen Black River as the "Home of the Tour". It is also the site of the Tour State Championship--with the name "GOLF CHANNEL" behind it, I have my pick of the States courses and I'm at Black River. Enough said?????

I have know about this course for years - it has always hsd management problems since the founding company sold it. Sadly the management problems are still evident. We experienced an obviously hung over starter, who arrived 25 minutes after the scheduled tee times and promptly announced that he was putting a two-some off in front of us after we teed off? The two-some was as baffled as we were since they were not even on the tee? The rudest, sloppiest golf operation I have ever seen. This is not a course I would return to play. I would caution you to stay away from this course - try Fore Lakes, great course and they appreciate your business.
