Course Reviews

This is one of my two favorite courses in the area, the other being Willowbrook in Byron. Most of the front nine is what I call "Farmfeild" golfing, open flat and forgiving. 8 through 18 on the otherhand is a whole other story. Most of these fairways are through the trees and somewhat narrow. The hills remind me of the courses we played around the Smoky Mountains. I thought it was well worth the value on line coupon good for 18 holes for 18 bucks Monday through Friday. As for the clubhouse, well I go there for golf not to drink, that being said the food was good and I thought reasonably priced. As like most courses in MI, they are either too wet in the spring or too dry in the late summer or fall, I didn't find any problems here that I could'nt live with. Itching to get back there in the spring!

If you don't care for your golf course... then neither do I!

This place is in serious need of better upkeep. The fairways were in horrible condition, with large bare spots in places. I hit a drive right down the center of hole 6... about 260 yards, and thought i was in great shape until I took the cart over there and found I was on a big hard dirt patch...

The greens were in a bit better shape than the fairways, but still need some TLC.

This course could be pretty decent with proper upkeep, as it is challenging, and the scenery in places isn't bad for the area.

Sebass says and I quote: "Expensive for what it is" and goes on to say "Nothing special for the clubhouse and pricey for the quality of maintenance of the course."

The clubhouse he/she is right on, but it's a SPLENDID value. Right now in the fall, it's only $18 for 18 holes with a cart. That compares with Rolling Hills in Lapeer (not anywhere as nice of a course) and is CHEAPER than the Flint city-owned courses. A semi-private course this inexpensive is far from "pricey" or "Expensive for what it is..." Sebass does note that the back 9 is very scenic and challenging. I'd modify that to say the middle 1/3rd. Holes 7-12 are the ones that will make or break you at Bramblewood. 4 of the 5 toughest holes are in this triad. I have YET to see a hole as pretty as #8 (and to a lesser degree, #10 and #11) on a course ANYwhere for less than $30 SANS cart. Pretty... pretty deadly too. Your tee shot HAS to be straight or you are in danger of a penalty stroke and teeing off another ball.

Expensive for what it is...

Very open front 9, but a very scenic and challenging back 9 that wraps through the woods. Nothing special for the clubhouse and pricey for the quality of maintenance of the course. Staff is extremely friendly.
