Course Reviews

I played this course after receiving a promotional email. Grand reopening after investing over a million dollars in the course. I had heard nothing but bad things about this course. I need to let those people know that they need to go play here now that they have done some renovation.

Amenities - Didn't really use them.

Difficulty - I didn't find this course to be extremely difficult, though you could get into some problems if you hit some extremely errant shots. Lots of water, and several holes made you think about the risk/reward. A couple of holes got me that way. I am not an extremely long hitter, but was forced to use my 3 wood several times off the tees to avoid driving through the fairways.

Maintenance - Excellent. The million dollar renovation included laying new sod. Several of the fairways had been completely resodded and were like carpet. Maintenance crew appears to be doing an outstanding job. A couple of the tee boxes are still not ready for use but will get there. Carts were in excellent condition and I believe brand new.

Scenery - Not bad. Pretty setting.

Value - I payed a promotional price of $11.99 plus tax. Outstanding value. Will go back and play at regular price.

Complaint - I am in a good mood when I go to play golf. The young man behind the counter in the pro shop was not the most friendly guy. Not rude, just kind of a hum drum, "give me your money and be on your way" attitude.

Overall recommendation - Put Patuxent Greens Country Club on your play list.

A lot must have happened since the person played this course in May. I found the course to be in terrible shape, from the tee to green. The greens on the back nine were in bad shape and the front nine greens, while better, there were weeds on the putting surface. Fairways were not very good, a lot of patchy dirt areas which led to some really bad lies where you should have been hitting off a grass. Only good thing was the price, which I booked at a discount. Oh and one more thing, there was no marshall or starter and we played the last nine holes behind a very slow moving group of SIX!

We went out this weekend and had a great time. Overall, the course is in good condition. The tee boxes are a little beat up but the greens are in great shape. Green fees are always very reasonable for this area. It was a lot of fun and a great value.

I found this course very nice, fair and in good condition. Water comes into play on a fair amount of holes but is easy to avoid. The blue herion we saw on the course was bueatiful.

jpak19 may not be aware but the extreme heat and a tornado that week severely stressed the course. Conditions have greatly improved since.

Unfortunately Mr. emac7 is not representing Patuxent Greens or the events in question accurately. Mr. Emac's complaints were addressed and he is not interested in making things right. He instead prefers to attempt to damage the reputation of the course. Since this website is allowing the review from emac7 to remain viewable without verifying its accuracy, a response is necessary.

Mr. Emac was serviced as much as possible before and after his round. A Ranger brokered a play-through for a twosome, but Mr. Emac did not want to wait for them to use the port-a-John and teed off anyway. This is what upset the twosome. There were also only two twosomes anywhere near Mr. Emac's tee time, and they checked in 20 minutes apart as walk-ons and so could not be joined on the first tee. The only other twosomes were nearly an hour later, and would not have caught any group playing at a normal pace.

Patuxent Greens is in great shape and welcomes all golfers to take part in the Best Deal in Golf.

would have been an ok course but it was in such terrible shape. tee boxes, fairways and around the greens looked disgusting.

other than that the price is pretty good.

Poor management. No Ranger on duty. Poor control of start times and groups. I was a foursome sent out in front of four twosomes. We ended up waiting over 30 min total on various holes to allow the twosomes to pass through. One of the twosomes groups became belligerent and abusive to our group every time they came within earshot. I asked for the ranger and was told none was on duty. The staff in the flagged cart claimed they were not rangers but office and cart personnel. After completing the round I asked for the manager and was told he was gone for the day. Do yourself a favor go somewhere else to spend your money.

Course and greens were in great shape in August 09. Great price for 18 holes with a cart ($24)

Rough was six inches deep, fairways were shaggy, greens were hard and bumpy, and tee boxes were thrashed. Overall, the course was somwhere between a swamp and a cow pasture. Can't recommend.

I'm new to the area and really like this place. There's water on every hole, strategically placed trees/sand to challenge the landing area for your tee shots, and at least one bunker (or two) defending EVERY green. Lots of trees too.

While the course is flat, the water everywhere (sometimes it's hidden - you can't see it until you're right on it 'cause the course is so flat) and the trees make it so you must hit it straight or you'll be miserable. You can't just bang your driver & tame this course, either - many times it's better to pull out your hybrid and drop the ball 150 yards from the hole, then try to hit the green from there. The 18th hole is a good example.

The course was in good shape and the staff was friendly. They put sand/seed in the carts, but not enough people used them, which was disappointing - people should appreciate this place and leave it in good shape for the folks behind them.

Course was in decent shape with tee boxes pretty beat up. It is really flat and only a few difficult holes. I had free passes so the price was right. I prefer Timbers or Fairway Hills to this course. Plus they are closer to my house. Probably wont go back unless I get free passes again.

The course is certainly flat, with almost no elevation changes, but it does require accuracy. The value is good, and for the most part the course is usually in solid condition. It is one of the better courses in the area.

We played this course in the Spring of 07 and never went back. It is a very "flat" course and some of the holes were in very poor shape with major drainage problems throughout; poorly kept teeboxes and greens. The only thing jumping was my golf ball on the way to the hole......then me jumping into my car to leave
