Oakmont Green is gimmics....just straight forward golf with a few doglegs thrown in. Traps mostly avoidable, course very flat, slightly lumpy tee boxes, rough reasonable, and greens petrifyingly slow! Conditions in a very dry July were tolerable...attempting to keep the fairways watered between golfers. The course lacks pizzazz but a nice place to get a round in before heading to a tougher course. Not a lot of challenge here but quality golf for a descent price.

Oakmont Green was my home course while on the high school golf team in 2003, and over the past 5 years it has made great strides across the board.

The greens used to be so chewed up that a one putt from outside 3 feet was basically luck. The tee boxes used to be crowned and hairy. Since then, most of the teeboxes have been fixed and the greens are smooth and even fast at times. Even after playing this course about 1,000 times, I still enjoy the layout. The course is generally open and definitely on the easy side with the exception of a few holes. Those holes are #8, #9, #15, and #18 where big trouble awaits an errant swing. As for the amenities and scenery they are average to above average, and I will say that the houses, although coming into play on a few holes, are generally out of the way.

I have seen Oakmont at its worst, and it has taken a few years to bring back up to the caliber it should be. I have to say it is playing the best I've seen it in years and I recommend it to anyone looking for good golf with a good value. -j

Oakmont has just three par 3s and three par 5s so it has a bunch of par 4s of all shapes and sizes. Bring your driver to the front nine because you'll need it! Two par 5s and some big par 4s dominate the front. By comparison you don't really need the big drive on the back nine, just some solid lay-ups and positioning either to avoid some water or the trees that begin to close-in and squeeze you over the back nine. #10 can be dangerous if you blow the drive right; stay left and beat the dogleg you should get an easy par. #11 is a nice uphill par 3 hole but accuracy is more important than club selection. #12 is a lay-up par 4 for most players -- 230 or less to the hazard off an elevated tee. #13 is another lay-up hole because the dogleg left fairway runs out at 220 yards. #14 is just 310 yards downhill but if you think you have your driver under control by then give it a rip but just don't blow it right into some guy's backyard! #16, #17, and #18 all have woods hard to one side of the fairway. I do enjoy playing Oakmont! It has an interesting layout and great variety of holes. Very fair. The greens can be thick with grass so you must hit solid putts.

Green fees are very reasonable-especially with a coupon ($46/2players) for the quality of the golf course. No dramatic elevation changes; greens and fairways are relatively well maintained with a number of grip-it rip-it and "lip-it" holes (for what you're going to be saying after you swing as hard as you can because of your insatiable desire for distance)which will probably give you a "snowman" on your scorcard (8) thereby solidifying your commitment for a "return for revenge" engagement" to satisy your ego and allow you to sleep peacefully at night once again.

Ha ve been to Outing 3 years in a row and it is awesome the course is well maintained but the staff and the food and the whole experience makes it worth coming back to over and over , have also played here a few times that were not outing related and have enjoyed myself for the buck.

Worth a look

Play here regularly, most recently 4-10-07. Nice "local" course, unpretentious, a bit off the beaten track, affordable, and loved by folks setting up corporate/club outings. Design is pretty simple: not much elevation change, a little water, generous fairways, bunkers are mostly greenside, greens are medium sized, and usually a bit slow. Driving range and practice green available. Pro shop is small, and has a moderate stock and decent prices. Snack bar is OK, but no draft beer, only cans. Patio is used for outings, and the club serves a very good steak at those events. Staff is generally friendly, and the price is right.
