I played this course near the end of June and the course was in excellent shape. Fairways and greens were well maintained. The front nine is narrow and extremely difficult after the first two holes. Lots of trouble on the right and left. Back nine was more open, yet placement of shots is more of a key because of hazards. Would highly recommend this course and look forward to going back and playing again someday!

nice but ourageous prices

There are two things I can say about golfing in March...cheaper rates and lots of wind. Rocky Gap is really two different 9 holes...the front more secluded and the back more open and exposed. If you have limited all means, golf the front nine. After the first two rather bland holes, the course challenges you mentally and visually, starting with the #1 handicapped hole, the Par 4 431 yard Hole #3. Drive too far and par is out of the question. The Par 5 Hole #5 and the Par 3 Hole #6 lead you downward toward Interstate 68 and are the most scenic of the front nine with the Par 3 dropping steeply in elevation. My favorite approach shot on the entire course is the dogleg right to Hole #7 into a tiny kidney shaped green fronted by a stream. Holes #8 and #9 return uphill towards the lodge with a beautiful view of Lake Habeeb from the ninth green. The back nine starts with a long cart ride beyond the first hole...too far from the clubhouse in my opinion. The Par 5 10th is a fun challenge with water fronting the green. From here, I felt the course went downhill. The Par 5 13th has a nice pond to the right of the green and the Par 5 15th creates a challenging decision on where to place your second shot because the green is hardly reachable in two. Holes 16 and 17 are long Par 3's. The closing hole has quite an undulating green and is a difficult closing hole. I was disappointed with the lack of scenery on the back and when the wind is blowing, tee shots are fully exposed to the elements. The back nine is so far from the lodge...don't ever plan to walk this course. I played in March...I'll take for granted that they will have the course in better shape when the "real" season starts! The course is worth a stop, at least for the enjoyable front nine! A little pricey for such a bland back nine.
