Course has made a drastic come back with Bermuda grass, ravines cleared out and new sand in traps. Very nice golfing experience

This course is terrible. Crabgrass growing in fairways. Dead worms on greens. Must I say anymore.

Price was fair, but not a favorite of mine. I was going to write a "not-so-good" review, but seing as how I have only golfed there once (about a month ago), and that it is too late to cancel my post, I will wait to write a more detailed review untill I get back from the course after todays round. Happy golfin'!

Course is a shot-makers course. Good time by foursome. Would recommend and play again.

The River Downs Golf Course at the Francis Scott Key Golf Club? The new owners apaprently have an identity problem as well as a mental problem. I used to golf there occasionally. I had to beg people to go with me, since most people hate the course. But I'm cheap, and for $14 I'd smack the ball around there. But the new owners refused to honor the remaining four $14 tee time certificates I had (which, by the way, I purchased after they bought the course). So I won't go back, even if it is cheap. And if that's how they are treating their current customer base, they won't last long. Just like the prior owner, the one before that, the one before that...They're in a period of self-wonderment right now: "Look at me, I own a golf course." But wait until they see the amount of play they get this summer, and they start thinking "Maybe we should have been a bit nicer to our existing customers",and then the winter will hit, and their self-wonderment will turn to severe depression. I'll go back summer of 2009, after it sells one more time.

...bring a lot of extra balls..if you have a lot of up and down mood swings, this course will enhance and compliment those feelings ; course condition and maintenance are lacking in all aspects - probably because its up for sale and the current owner doesn't want to invest any more money into it. Sad. Green fees are "economical"- especially with coupons or TTime Golf Pass.......and sometimes "negotiable" even without coupons so no complaints on price; others Raters here have given you "the rest of the story."

The greens were so dried out, they looked like they hadn't been watered all summer. One of the hilliest courses in the State, so it is certainly a challenge. Lots of stuff to shoot over and around. No problems with a tee time though

This is a tough course for the average golfer. As others have said one must be able to hit some tough shots. On about half the holes on the front nine one can not hit the driver. Bad News: The major downfall of the course is the greens. Some of the greens have a bad disease that has caused parts of the green to dry out so bad the ground "cracked" (like at the desert). Good News: It is easy to get a tee time and the price can be negotiated.

This is target golf. Some of the holes need to be blown up and redone. On the other side some holes are lots of fun. Play and have fun but be aware of lots of long carry's needed to get to the green

Yes what the other posters said is true. BUT, my opinion of why is becasue the course is difficult. It is shot makers golf course. Target golf. But it is fair. It is a typical Arthur Hills designed course, that you can tell he used the land to build the course.

For the price, certainly worth a shot.

I recently played this course and it was not in as bad of shape as everyone is making it out to be. They have imporved the up keeping of the course and it is in a lot better condition. It is a tough course but who doesn't love a challenge. Greens fees were very reasonable too.

Stay Away!

Very poorly designed golf course, with some extremely difficult holes. Clearly, the design of this course was a very distant secondary priority to building houses. This course's reputation is so bad, they changed its name a few years ago from River Downs to FSK, apparntly hoping to tap into some residual Maryland patriotism. Clubhouse is nice, pro shop staff struggles mightily to sell the golfers on the course, but after nine holes, no one is fooled. The builders had aspirations that this course would be beloved by the homeowners, and they could go private: didn't happen, even the people who live on the course won't play it. Course has gone through several management and ownership changes in the last few years. It will take a MAJOR redesign and megabucks to make FSK acceptable...probably something that won't happen. There is one bit of good news: it's easy to get a tee time.

Skip this course

THis is perhaps the worst maintained course I have ever seen. There was no grass on any tee box or fairways. I assume they over fertilized and burned it off. The course should not even be open right now. If they were giving away rounds I would not play this course.
