I played (8 handicap) Ellinwood CC the other day for the first time ever because my regular course was closed. It's a shame that I missed playing such a fun and well-kept course for so many years...seeing that it is only a short 45 minute drive from my home. The greens are terrific; the layout is challenging and picturesque; fairways and bunkers are a little rough in spots but overall are well-groomed and well-maintained; the staff was very friendly and accommodating; and to top it all...they've been running a weekend special of only $27 for 18 plus a cart. I would challenge anyone to find a better deal anywhere. We liked it so much that we came off the 18 and made a tee time for the next day. Ellinwood definitely will remain on our "To Do" list. If you're within 50 miles (or maybe 75 if you like driving to the country) of Athol, Ellinwood is definitely worth the trip! Hate to use the cliche but this place has to qualify as one of those proverbial best-kept secrets.

Ellinwood is a quality course kept in very good shape - Too expensive for the economic times but worth playing on occasion. Some greens can set up as ridiculously unfair when dry. I don't think Mr. Ross thought having your ball come back to where you started hitting it was his idea of poor course strategy. 17 and 18 are still a bit unfinished.... yet the isolated and mostly pristine layout make a day relaxing and fun. Lower the price and I'll play there more often!

Ellinwood is a quality course that is well maintained and has an interesting layout. It is one of the best in the central Mass region. Amenities are basic - but the conditions are generally very good. My only criticism of the course are two greens that verge on the ridiculous. When these two greens are dried out the only way you can hit a putt is up hill! I have seen six putts on these two greens! The golfers here are dedicated and take golf seriously. On weekends go after noon as members and intra-club tournaments dominate the mornings. Weekdays you will have plenty of space and a very enjoyable round.
