The 9-hole "Get Golf Ready Course" at the Pelican Point Golf & Country Club facility in Gonzales, Louisiana features 2,884 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 35. Designed by Ray Aravelo, the Get Golf Ready Course opened in 2002.
Would never recommend this course to anyone. Club Members are hell bent to complete a round of golf in 3 hours or so. If you are playing regulation golf and completing a round in 4 hours...watch out. The Members behind you will call the Club House and a Marshall will warn you to pick up play. Guess it's beneath Members to simply ask to play through? We play fast as a threesome but playing a round in 3 hours...what fun is that? We are out there to relax and play Regulation golf. Half star for the overall experience(s) at Pelican. Two stars for the course itself as the fairways are paper thin and greens sub standard.
The Lakes Course at Pelican Point has been shortened to nine holes, and is now called The Get Golf Ready Course. It has two sets of tee boxes to allow for 18-hole play. I found it a good value and thoroughly enjoyable. Even though it is short, less than 6000 yards, it is not easy, as there are rolling elevation changes and water on just about every hole. The greens were very fast and undulating, and the fairways were in good condition. The par fives are reachable in two, but don't let the name fool you-this is not a beginners' course!
My favorite course in the area. When you combine the quality and the value of this course, its hard to beat. The greens are very nice.
