Could have sworn I saw Bagger Vance. Guy playing with wooden clubs in front of me. Old muni course with not much going on. No one cared that I was there. Neither did I. Many courses in area are better to play for just a dollar or two more, and some are even cheaper if you book online.

This is a good beginners course; the staff was friendly when we went -- maybe it was just one of those days though.

Paxton Park is one of the finest municipal golf courses I have played in the country. I have played it several times and at different times of the year. The only time it was not enjoyable was when it was waterlogged from days and days of rain. The customer service staff is small, one or two people, so don’t expect to have your clubs unloaded or cleaned. The golf carts have GPS, apparently the only course in the region with it, so you don’t waste time looking for a yard marker. The fairways are generously wide Bermuda grass. The rough was usually a little taller than the ball so it was not hard to find your ball and play it. The fairway lies in the winter are tight as you would expect for Bermuda but are very playable. The greens are Champion Bermuda and are played year round. This is the unquestionably the best grass for greens on a public course I’ve ever seen. It is so dense that pitch mark damage is minimal and easier to fix than bent grass. Putting on these greens was a pleasure for both accuracy and consistency. These greens are the same grass as the courses I play in Florida and Texas which are 3 to 5 times the price. The greens hold a spinning ball very well but a ball without backspin must be played short for the roll out. The cheap price and the quality of the course easily make this a 5 star value. One thing that surprised me about the course is that there are 2 PGA tour player champions that played their early years of golf at Paxton that still come to the course for fund raising events every year. One of them actually plays and practices on the course several times a year. I’m not going to drop names, if you want to know who they are call the course.

This is the worst golf experience of my life!!!!! Do Not go Here!

I thought I was the only person who had problems a Paxton Park. There staff was terribly rude, and seemed to be annoyed that I was there from out of town. They must not have realized I spent 21 years of my life in Paducah and am considered by most a local. I was rained out on the second hole. They offered a rain check, no problem there. Then came the issue of the $12.00 cart fee which they refused to either refund or give a rain check for. They were simply the most rude individuals I have ever met or seen on a golf course. I went back to give them another shot and use my rain check. I paid my cart fee (for the second time) and was again treated like a redheaded stepchild at a family reunion. Unlike the other post on this site, I did not have a child with me. We were simply two old friends out for a relaxing round of golf. In summary, this place will make your dreams of a pleasant round of golf become a NIGHTMARE! It is nothing like the Paxton Park of years past. Go to Drake's Creek or Mineral Mounds for a real round of golf.

Terrible Guest Service

This was by far the worst golf experience we have ever had. Don't waste your money or time as the staff there will be bothered by your presence.
From the pro shop to the driving range, etc, we felt as though they did not want us there. Do not bring a child as they will refuse to allow them or you there.
Do visit Mineral Mounds golf course if you are in this area. Well worth the money and a true challange to any handicap.
