This is a great old school course. fairways have no irrigation so you are playing what mother nature gives you, which is alot of fun. Greens are always good and the staff is friendly. being only nine holes and never crowded you can play 18 in about 3 hours which is great.
I played Avon this weekend. It was the first time I have played it, but it was not in good shape at all. We are at the end of a very hot summer with little rain, but the only green on the course was the tee boxes and the greens. Hitting the ball while in the fairway was equal to hitting off of concrete. $11 for 9 holes and a cart seems reasonable, but I would rather go ahead and spend $15 on a course that is better kept. Seemed more like a farm with greens and tee boxes than a true golf course. I did hear however, from one of my playing partners, this was the worst condition ever that he had seen this course. Maybe in the spring or during a wetter season I will try it again.
courseearly in the summer this facility's fairways are not in the best shape but their greens are wonderful!
Decent muni courseI've played Avon several times and it appears to have been recently renovated (probably in 2005-2006). The course has few mature trees along many of the holes and it is very obvious that the tee boxes have been moved. On several holes you will have a good distance from green to the next tee. The grass is not great, but I played the course mostly because it was inexpensive (I think $6-10 for weekday play). Also, keep in mind the course is on a decommissioned military facility. It's not pretty, but it's a fast course to play.
