I really enjoy this course. It is difficult and when you think you should of stayed home you get a run of great shots (luck). I recomend this place to everyone.

Worth the drive and the price

Buffer Park is a first-rate golf course. Rod Gaffney does a tremendous job with maintaining the course. BPGC has its own water, so when other courses are like the airport tarmac, the Buff is plush and green.

If you are playing well and rolling your putter well, you likely will do some scoring. If you hit it crooked, you can find the deep rough, the heather, the well-placed bunkers, the water, or the trees. The course is well designed with flat greens and few elevation changes. The putts break subtly.

Holes 5-8 are as tough as anywhere. Hole 2 is a difficult par 3 with a big green. There are a couple of birdie holes and both par 5 holes can be reached with well placed drives. The course will make you think.

Buffer Park has a beautiful clubhouse with a large meeting room. The cart barn is the original barn that was on the property before the course was built.

I don't know about all the "wrong side" references or the implications that BPGC is in a bad part of town, but it is definitely a surprise that this gem is located just south of Mars Hill and only 10-15 minutes down Kentucky Ave. from the RCA Dome.

I know what your thinking, why go play a nine hole course on the wrong side of town. Follow that line of thinking and you will miss one of the great surprises in Indianapolis golf. As a low handicap player, I've had the chance to play some of the best courses in the area and the world. This does a creditable job to compete with courses like Heartland Crossing and Twin Bridges for quality and condition. Of the back tees there are well placed bunkers for risk reward drives. The fairways are wide and fast and the green complexes are well bunked, large targets and roll well. The last time I got to play Buffer I was hard pressed to find one weed on any playing surface. In the wrong side of an industial part of town you forget the location until you get a look at a quary off the last par 3. Not the easist place in the world to get to off the interstate but a quick trip from downtown, or in my case, the airport. Don't pass a chance to play this hidden gem.
