Course Reviews

This is sort of a novelty course like Pebble Beach. The novelty of playing 4 holes "inside" the Indianapolis 500 racetrack. You get a perspective of how 260,000 fit in the bleacher seats. Without these holes inside the track, it was just another nice, well taken care of, golf course. Pete Dye did a great job of routing this course with the creek running throughout the course. AS for the price, I thought $90.00 was a little steep, especially for seniors (the backbone for weekday golf). It is definitely a good test for all golfers with 4 sets of tees. Fairways, greens & sandtraps were in good shape for Sept. I don't think I'll be back, but it's a course to play once in your lifetime. If you haven't been to the Speedway before, take in the Museum and the ride around the track ($5.00 each).

Nothing special in the pro shop, but the cart guy was extremely friendly & the ranger was very helpful along with the beverage cart.

Played Brickyard at a reduced ($70) rate in early November because they had recently aerified. The design is pretty classic Pete Dye with lots of pot bunkers and loads of railroad ties. He writes about the course in his book, Bury Me in a Pot Bunker. It's an interesting layout with 4 holes inside the Indy track, electrical towers, Eagle Creek lined with discarded pieces of concrete from the retaining wall but it all works! Scenic and memorable. #7 is a great redan hole when the pin is back. There are a couple really terrific par 5s. Staff couldn't be nicer. It's a $20 cab ride from the center of town.
