French Lick Resort, French Lick, IN

This is the most irritating course I can remember. The layout is interesting and well-maintained but for some reason they don't tell you where the pins are set. The greens are all raised, most of them pretty severely, so you can't see the hole from your shot. The carts have a screen with the yardage but not the pin location. I asked at the clubhouse if they had pin location information, and they told me they don't because "most of our golfers don't care about that".

So I had two holes on the front 9 where I thought I had hit close to the pin, only to get up to the green and find out the pin was set all the way to the back and because my 150 yard shot had gone 152 it had gone over the green and down the hill, leaving me looking straight up trying to get shortside shape. And of course the greens slope back to front, so the last place you want to be on that course is behind the green. After that I made sure I was short on my approaches, which was fine for my score but not as much fun as going for the pin.

Bottom line, if you are planning a golf weekend in French Lick, this is the course to skip. Make sure to play Sultan's Run, that will be a much more enjoyable experience for you.

Course was pristine on 4/17/10. It takes some imagination to play the very undulated greens. Neat course set-up, although the holes are kind of crammed together. Lots of bunkers. Staff wasn't very friendly at all, I'm very displeased from that aspect. Practice green was surprisingly tiny and maintained differently than the greens on the course.

Overall experience was not worth $125.
