looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel! the city has apparently given the go ahead to plant zoysia grass. also, i understand that they have secured a water supply from the plumbers & steamfitters union. they are about 1/2 mile from the course and are to pump water from a spring fed strip pit into the creek. the golfcourse has a well dug next to the creek to catch it. the zoysia is to be planted, hopefully in late may to early june, depending on the weather. also, they have been replacing drainage pipes that run between the lakes on the front nine. the old ones were collapsing. as of march 16, only the back nine is open. they hope to open the front in a week or so. conditions are pretty patchy and it will probably be a messy spring, but the future looks better.
*** update... spring of 2012 was quite fun, then the drought hit
extra hard. lost all fairways. tee boxes had little grass, greens were a little better. they reseeded around labor day. 3 of the fairways lost all the seed, apparently from heavy rains.
NO GRASS on #7, #12 and #14 fairways. don't know what their plans are for 2013. ***

*** update... the course opened in late february 2012. the grass they planted is growing quite well. as of march 20, 2012,
the course is looking quite good. they have been putting sand in the bunkers and grooming them. tuesday and thursday are their special price days. i don't know how it will fair during the dog days of summer, but the spring is looking good. ***

as a long time member of this course, it pains me to see the reviews. most of them are accurate. 2011 was absolutely horrible. the grass died on almost the entire course. the ponds got sucked almost completely dry in an attempt to water the grass. the drainage is pitiful, so standing water made it even worse. they reseeded it in late summer. hopefully, that will help. it will for a little while, anyway. this place needs to be completely rebuilt. the sprinklers, drains, ect. are from 1978 and are failing left and right. they are hoping to get some $$$ from the city to try a new type of grass. maybe, bermuda or zoysia, but don't hold your breath. if the weather gods are very kind, this place is just fine. if you play here, do it during terrific tuesday or twilight. if you travel here and pay full rate, chances are very strong that you will be completely frustrated.

Complete waste of money. I grew up here and can't believe what happened to this course. The one positive review of this place is from a local. Don't waste your time or money.

THIS COURSE SHOULD BE CLOSED! AFTER CHECKING THE COURSE CONDITIONS WITH THE PRO SHOP WE DROVE 100 MILES TO PLAY THIS GOAT RANCH. I WAS TOLD THEY HAD A COUPLE OF "BAD" FAIRWAYS. THEY LIED. THE COURSE WAS IN UNPLAYABLE CONDITIONS....MOST FAIRWAYS AND APRONS AROUND THE GREENS WERE BARE IN MOST PLACES. CRABGRASS IS TAKING OVER A LOT OF THE TEE BOXES AND FAIRWAYS. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TAKE A GREAT LAYOUT AND TURN IT OVER TO THE CITY TO RUN. IT DIDN'T GET IN THIS CONDITION IN ONE SEASON....TOO BAD IT USED TO BE A GREAT COURSE. THEY SHOULD CHANGE THE NAME BECAUSE I'M SURE THE HULMAN FAMILY DOESN'T WANT THEIR NAME ASSOCIATED WITH SUCH POOR FACILITY.

Ranked #1 Municipal in the state by Golf Digest! I can see why.. Great layout, friendly staff and the price was very good. Worth it!
