Played here with some friends for the first time on May 1st. The golf course is located in some of the most beautiful and scenic country in Illinois. They had there spring rates of $26 dollars which was very inexpensive compared to courses anywhere else. The clubhouse was nice and clean, with friendly help. We got out on the course and it was obvious that there was something special going on here. Layout was unreal, and fairways and greens were in the condition you would expect from a private club. The views on some of the holes were breathtaking. I would highly recommend to anyone who has not played here to check this one out.

I could go on for 20 PAGES about this place, good and bad. The course layout itself is awesome... dramatic elevation changes, tough driving holes, spectacular scenery, etc... greens were very nice... fairways okay, tees awful...

HOWEVER... the amenities are terrible. the parking lot isn't paved, we had to hit off the weeds on the driving range, the practice green is so sloped if you miss a putt it rolls off the green literally... they have no water on the course AT ALL... why would the pro shop not tell people this? why aren't signs posted? maybe they are under some kind of water restriction currently, but isnt that a perfect scenario to sell bottled water to players!!! the cart paths are either dirt, rocks, or non existent... bent grass fairways and tees, but no seed fillers on the carts or on par 3 tees- WHAT A JOKE

despite all these negatives, the course itself is worth $40 on a weekday, just off the layout, scenery, and greens... so why are they only charging $22?????

it's in the middle of nowhere, so no matter how cheap it is you wont get that many rounds played.... if they charged more and got the little things right, it could be a $70 facility!!! if they did these things, i would visit EVERY YEAR despite living 2 hours away... it's literally the best layout south of springfield IN THE STATE.

Played Crane Creek yesterday. Played Crane Creek today. Playing Crane Creek tomorrow. Can't get enough. There's no beverage cart so I got some beverages in a cooler on ice when I checked in and stayed hydrated. The course was busy so had to wait on a couple of holes, but finished in good time. There are a few bare places, but overall still a beautiful course and a GREAT place to play. Oh yeah, I even saw a turkey on the course! (A real one - not the last reviewer)

I played Crane Creek in 2008 and found the course layout great and the overall conditions acceptable. I returned to play two rounds on August 22, 2010 and in one word would describe the day as pathetic. The greens fees were $35 including cart and when the pro shop attendant told us to “Have fun” I actually thought he was serious. After playing, I can’t believe that he charged us. The course was in such terrible shape, he should have given us money to play it. At one point we had a wager that whoever hit the ball on grass won a dollar. It was that bad. The tee boxes were complete dirt and it looked as though there was nothing being done to improve them or the fairways. The greens were the only thing in decent shape and that is being generous. After finishing the first round we had lunch. The woman who helped us was lovely and very nice. She was without a doubt the highlight of the day. As we were eating lunch at 1:00pm we noticed that the beverage cart woman was unloading her cart. We drove for an hour to play the course so we decided for $10 bucks we would replay the dirt track like we had planned. Venturing out for our second round which happened to be the hottest part of the day, we found out the hard way that there isn’t a single water cooler on the course. We also remembered that we were never going to see the beverage cart again. They did make sure to tell you that you cannot bring your own beverages on the course or you will be escorted off without refund. So there we were baking in the summer sun without any options for drinks. They say golf is a mental game. I can say without hesitation that this course took its very toll on my mental & physical golf game. Spare yourself and avoid Crane Creek. You’ll thank me… PS. The starter made us aware of all the bad things we could do to get thrown out and then said “Have fun.” Here I thought we were there to play golf. Looking back, there’s nothing we could have done to hurt that course.

Superb conditions and beautiful scenery. Priced great. The course is very lucky to have the pro. He is the best around.

This is an excellent course, especially for the money. It's remote, but it's a great piece of property and they've developed a course that requires strategy but remains playable and enjoyable. It will play like a monster if you choose the wrong tee box, but it's very fun if you don't bite off more than you can chew. There are a number of memorable holes, and they have a great finishing hole. What more could a golfer want?

Course is beautiful and fun to play. A jewel in the heartland. Conditions are super and the layout is more like the courses at the Lake of The Ozarks than a remote Illinois course. I would make this a "must play" course!
