One of the difficulties I found with this course was the trees around the tees. Somewhat narrow until it you get a ways out. Also there was quite a lot of long grass clippings all over the fairways. The greens were a bit long and rough. If you have good control this would be a fairly easy course. I do not so I fell victim to the trees and the LONG rough. My carts breaks didn't work that well either. I would recommend this to someone who could hit straight and liked to walk.

This course is in decent shape considering the super hot weather that Macon endured this summer. While not one of the longer courses, this courses is quite scenic and offers enough challenge to most golfers.

If you're looking for a premium, superlative golf experience...this isn't it. In fact, this isn't the town. On the other hand, if you like to walk and need to play a round in a reasonable amount of time, Oak Haven is just the ticket.

Mediocre maintenance and few amenities are offset by a short course that has lots of character. What looks easy is in reality a challenge; with few exceptions you need to keep the ball in the fairway to avoid losing strokes. Uncultivated rough and woods are everywhere.

The course has drifted from owner to owner over the years. Some have spent a lot of money on taking care of the place. Others haven't. The area has a dense clay vein running through it with many low areas that have trouble draining and, after a good rain, can get boggy. This is a course that needs consistant drill-vs-plug aeration, insect & weed control and tons of water during the hot season.

Drought is an ever-present nemesis also. If Macon isn't drowning, it's baking.

With all these challenges it's amazing the course is as much fun as it is. Just don't go expecting too much and you'll have a great time.

Note: During the week you can zoom through a round in three-and-a-half hours. Sundays, though, attract the locals duffers and families who can and do gum things up. Phone ahead for morning reservations and to make sure the course is open for public play.

Stop crying

You guys need to play again. New owner is trying to make it better. Do not forget we have had hardly any rain and water restrictions apply to everyone. They course south of Macon,"Oakview" had GPS at one time, but they can not afford to keep it. If it is so bad, why did you play there to start with?

At least is close by home...

...not a very good course. The greens are atrocious and the fairways are not very,...well...fair. Its not very expensive and you can get through a round in about 4 hrs. Its not a great course, not well kept, but I play it all the time because of its location. I will say this much, the 18th Hole is really nice, if you're a beginner like me it really builds your confidence and helps your game if you can get it over the water and on the green. I birdied that sucker and felt like Tiger Woods third cousin Cougar Woods.

Watch those potholes

If you're into meticulate golfing, stay away. This course has some rough spots, and by 'some' I mean the entire 18 holes. This place really holds water too. I played there once a week after it rained. Teed off on the par 3 9th, missed the green by maybe five feet. The ground was so wet that I spent ten minutes looking for my ball, only to realize it was completely buried (4 inches deep) in mud that looked kind of like the fairway. The 18th is a fun hole, nothing but water between the tee and the green. The back 9 is a pretty good challenge, and if this course were a little cheaper, it would certainly make up for the maintenance issues.

A little rough

This course is great for beginners and for practice. The fairways are not well kept and have quite a few significant indentations and armadillo holes. The greens are - well - not green - and uneven for the most part. The cart paths have several broken/cracked areas and dirt/mud washed over them. The price is fairly economical. The clientele is varied - the dress code quite lenient. Beer license is on again/off again - call first to see if you need to bring your own. The back holes (13 - 18) are more scenic than the front. The driving range is adjacent to several holes - I have had balls hit my cart or land near me when I was preparing for a shot.

Other websites say this course has GPS on the carts,it does not. I played the course in late Oct and the fairways looked like it had fungus growing on it. The greens were in fair shape, but were small and lacked character. Most holes were straight with some decent elevation changes. The fairways are narrow, so control is important.
