A beautiful golf course that is personally my favorite in the state and one of the top 5 I have ever played; (I have played probably 20 in the top 100 in the Country and about 10 of the top 20 in the State) by the way the less famous of the two courses (Riverside) is in my top 5 as well, and NO I AM NOT A MEMBER.

The redesign made this place so much tighter to me than before; I may be imagining that but it seems like you have to work the ball off the tee more to fit the ball in the fairway. Let’s just say I can not IMAGINE the scores for the 2011 PGA being as low as they were for the 2001 PGA which David Toms won at what I believe was (-17). For the Tourney the course will play at about 7,500 Par 70.

I have only played it a few times 2x before the redesign and 1x after but it does seem much tougher.
The new Zoysia fairways are like carpet and done perfectly. You rarely if ever see a course in the south so Uniformily perfect: I mean not dead spots.

A classic design that has the feel of a 1920’s golf course even though it was not built until I believe the 50’s the supposed “Terrible” period for American Golf Architecture.
A great golf course that has so many GREAT HOLES: holes that you remember after only playing them once. As I said I have played this course 3x so I may get the numbers mixed up but I will try to describe the Great Ones.
#11 A beautiful par 4 that the more you can turn your ball R to L the further you will be able to run your ball down the fairway for a closer shot to a beautiful green with water on the right. Reminds me of #18 (or #17) at Congressional Country Club depending on the year you play it except the water is on the Right instead of the left.

Both Par 3’s on the back are tremendous for players of all handicaps. I think it is 15 that has a lake on the right where you can work the ball either way to any pin; but to a Back R pin/ hitting a draw into that takes some guts.

In my opinion 18 should be played as a par 5 for the tourney as it is a great Risk reward golf hole. Standing over that 2nd shot knowing you had better hit the ball dead solid perfect to clear the Water is what golf is all about.

As you can tell I am a big fan and if had the money and the Stature to join any club in ATL and the surrounding areas it would be Atlanta Athletic Club. 2 truly World Class golf courses that I would put right up next to any classic Clubs with more than 1 course. (Medinah Courses 1,2,&3; Congressional Blue and The other one, Winged Foot; West and East, and Baltusural; Upper and Lower. I have only played Medinah but judging by what the members said that I played with the other 2 courses there do not compare to the famous No. 3 course. As where all the members I know at Athletic Club like the less known Riverside Course which is Classic in its own right.
