The 9-hole "Sanctuary" course at the River Strand Golf and Country Club facility in Bradenton, Florida features 3,470 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. Designed by Arthur Hills, ASGCA, the Sanctuary golf course opened in 2021.
The River Strand has three nine hole courses and the Club rotates you on to different courses to keep the flow of golf moving and to offer a constant challenge. The courses are titled the Sanctuary, Estuary and Tributary. I played the Sanctuary and the Estuary and they were both challenging; designed by Arthur Hills they have the “Link” feel. Plenty of sand to offer a strategic placement of your shot distance as well as water to greet you on every hole. You are better off most times making a straight short shot to the fairway, rather than a long shot that will eventually roll you down to the water edge. The course is well marked on distance; but I found it best to never under club for distance to meet the greens; you need to land on them there is no rolling up to them. All I can say about the greens are they remind me of a pool table with a short leg on one end; your ball will roll to the short end. I highly recommend playing this course for the reason each hole offers a unique different challenge.
