Too bad to see such negative comments here - I play the Red Course often and agree the drainage is wanting on some holes but must say it currently only impacts play after a heavy rain. The bunkers need rebuilding also (this will be addressed soon I understand...) as they have done on the Black Course in the summer 2008. Overall I like this course, it's a nice layout with both easy and challenging holes, the greens are very good for a public course and the scenery is great. Another plus is that play generally moves along and I must say that in my experience that the people who work there are very friendly. The Wheel is on an up trend after some very difficult years and it looks like the City of Bridgeport is committed over time to make the improvements the course needs at this stage. I urge you to play it and see for yourself.

We played Fairchild Wheeler Sunday, I have a few complaints, one is I booked to play the new Black course side knowing the issues on the Red Course which the course should be ashamed about. The fact there is still no sand in the bunkers since I played there in the spring is really uncalled for. They messed up which course we were playing on and made no amends to make the customer happy. The course caters to men and really give women a hard time and the cold shoulder and in one case, down right nasty to me and my golf guest. Even down to the fact there is no proper ladies room.

While it has been raining for the last 2-3 weeks on and off. I expect some standing water on the course. However, there was water that is at least 10-20" on far too many of the holes and you could tell it was there for a few months, loaded with green algae floating on the top. Most of the sand traps are filled with water as well and no sand

Some areas we saw snakes and the Geese have taken to them as swimming pools, with droppings (poop) around the area. They were also infested with all sorts of bugs and mosquitos. Deer have also been in the areas where water was collecting, most likely there to drink, we saw many piles of deer droppings, I expect to see that on the edge near the rough, but close to the hole means no one is maintaining them.

I brought this to the attention of what was to be the manager and he just rolled his eyes at me. I told him if it had been the rain from the last few storms there would not be algae.

I feel this is a health concern and needs to be addressed. We got eaten alive at hole #11 where quite frankly that whole hole should be closed down. I play many courses all year and none are like this. This course would benefit from a new Management company instead of the city running it. Troon or Traditions would be a great one to take these 2 over and get it back up to par!

I was on business and some of my colleges wanted to play a round. We were told that Fairchild had done a lot of work on their course so we should check it out. We purchased out tickets at 4:18 for 9 holes (so we found out later) for $30.00 to ride mid week. We had no one in front or behind so we finished 9 holes relatively quickly and decided to play on. One of the corse marshalls rudely put his cart dirctly in front of ours after we teed off on the 10th and asked to see our tickets. He told us that we were not able to play on and that because we started one hole we were to finish and get off the corse. The corse was relatively empty and we found out from another harassing marshall that 12 minutes later (4:30PM which is probbly when we started) was twilight which cost $25 with a cart. We were not informed about the twilight rate when we bought our tickets and then were harassed by the marshal. The corse is porly maintained as the greens have a lot of fill and the fairways have holes, mud and exposed rock. The scenery was fun as we saw a coyote and lots of wild turkeys. This is probaby because their are few golfers to disturb the wildlife. I would not recommend this corse to anyone and most defenitely would not visit again !

I recently moved to the Bridgeport area and I live 2 miles from this course. Decided to invite a couple people to play here with me totally disregarding reviews I read on various sites about how bad this course is. Well they were right and after that round I would rather drive 1 hour or more than play at this course again. Course maintence is non existent and fees are pricey considering course conditions. Definitely would not play here again. Some holes were like gravel pits in front of the tee boxes. On one of the hottest days of the summer every water tower was empty. The course ranger approached us and told us we were 1 1/2 holes behind and we needed to hurry up after getting to the next hole we had to wait for the group in front to finish teeing off. I'm new to the sport and have played approx. 10 rounds total but this has to be the worst ever. Save your money and play in your backyard...
