When you find a course like Pinelands tucked away deep in the pines, where you can play (even with the stupid mandatory cart) for $39 on a summer Sunday morning despite not having a tee time, you really want to like the place. Then you play the first hole and all hopes of liking the place begin to quickly fade.

The truth is that the first is the most offensive hole on the course (a truly horseshoe shaped par five that requires to layups before an approach), but the remaining holes don’t get much better. Oddly, #8, #12, and #13 are really GOOD holes, but the other 15 are lacking. The course is way too tight, forces layup after layup (there’s almost no reason to hit a driver on any hole if you’re a player with decent length), and has conditions that are simply brutal.

In places it looks like the course had not been mowed in a week. At times it was difficult to determine where the rough ended and fairways began. The rough was long, and speckled with clover, making it very difficult to find the ball. The greens were so slow they were nearly impossible for me to putt. I found it impossible to hit a putt as ridiculously hard as the greens required. To make matters worse, they were cutting the greens…at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. The first 8 holes were uncut, but the last 10 were, making it even more confusing.

I played here because I play everywhere once. Only the good courses get a second look, and Pinelands won’t be one of them.

Pinelands, as its name suggests, is located right in the heart of the pinelands of New Jersey. Naturally, the scenery was very nice and the course has a remote and hidden feel to it. The course itself was generally nice. The maintainance was good, the greens quite a bit slow, but fair and the holes were fairly wide open. In fact, I don't think I lost a single ball. There weren't really any unique holes to speak of except for the 6th which ironically or not is the only hole with water on it. The pricing was fair but not great. ($23 to walk twilight weekend). My biggest issue is that they don't carry logo balls which I collect from every course I play...BOOOO. Huge disappointment. Overall rating B-.

This is a great course if you love a ridiculously miserable layout, dispicable course conditions, and greens that roll about -3 on the stimpmeter. Similar to shag carpet. The staff so rude, you would think you punched their mother's in the face. I can almost say that it is positive that the course is cheap, but even though it is only $30, you would be better served to go buy four large buckets of balls at your local driving range and work on your game. Playing here will only make you worse. If you get a coupon in the mail that the course is paying people $40 to play, I would still suggest that you save yourself the aggravation.

This is a very good golf course for the price. The track was in good shape the entire year and well worth the greens fee. This course will challenge you off the tees with several narrow tree lined fairways. Great place for a relaxing round of golf. Not sure about others that complain about laying up, not the fault of the layout if they cannot manage the course. It is supposed to be a challenge hit a Par 5 green in two shots. I can do it and I am not a low handicapper. It is not Trump National, but it is a good value for the price.

This is a good course with potential to be a lot better than what it currently is. Some of their staff have absolutely NO personality or customer service ability. The first hole is a very poor design. If you've played it or intend to you'lll see what I mean. It's a par five in the shape of a horseshoe. Most people will not be able to hit a driver off of the tee box because of the shape. Other than that the course has character and is currently in surprisingly good shape. For the price it's a fantastic deal.

I had not played this course in 10 years and now I know why.there was very little grass to speak of and it appeared as if they never aerated the grass to allow for the roots to grow.the greens had grass, way too slow and inconsistent.the staff was very layed back and it seemed nobody was in control except to take your greens fee.i may come back in another 10 years when I forget how bad it actually was but for now there are way too many better courses out there to play.

Day started out very slow & unorganized. Lots of groups jammed at the 1st tee box. We got out 25 minutes after our slotted tee time. Course is tight. Lots of trees but enough openings to find and play your ball. Course was in good shape overall but the tee boxes were not. The blue tees were not cut so we felt like we were teeing up in the rough. Good course that you have really focus on accuracy. Great price for a Sunday morning. $40 to ride.

Nice day out

Course starts out with a tough par 5, but eases up for a few holes before testing you again on #6, another par 5 thats dares you to hit it over the trouble on your second shot, most players have to lay up and par is a good score here. Rest of the course plays fair, and many chances to score well. A good course for a relaxing day with some friends as long as you can keep it out of the trees.

This course was a disgrace. They should be embarrassed to call that place a golf course. I don't know what they are paying the head greenskeeper but a dollar is way too much. If you are even considering going there, don't waste your time or money. The only positive feedbacks on this dump obviously came from the staff that works there.

I just finished my first round there, and i found it relaxing and enjoyable, one needs accurate drives to play well as trees are everywhere throughout. Greens were great. No customer service to speak of, people sort of had a laize fare (sp) attitude, shame it was that way

go for it

if you want to learn how to hit the ball straight and keep it in play, this is the place for you. Upgrading course every year, but the greens are thick like "velcro", so do not expect a fine putting round. What you will have is a fun day with great people.

Great course for the price. Bad thing is the greens keepers need to learn a little customer service from the pro shop.If you want golfer to stay on the paths you have to have paths for them to drive on.

not overly difficult BUT the course is in the best shape i have ever seen it over the past 20 years. it is now worth the 33 dollar greens fee, unless you're a golf snob.

great value, course in good condition, quite and relaxing place to play, especially for beginner intermediate player like myself
