The way you rate Frog Rock Golf and Country Club is all about perspective. If you come in hoping to play a well-manicured course with all the bells and whistles, you will be disappointed. Looking to have a good time out in nature for under $25? Then Frog Rock is the course for you.

Frog Rock Golf and Country Club was opened in 1969 in Hammonton, right in the middle of the New Jersey pinelands. It's a scenic course – not shocking given the location – with mature trees all around. Those trees come into play on most holes so it's important to stay in the fairway to give yourself the best chance of scoring well.

You'll open your round with two of the toughest holes on the course, thanks to those pesky (or pretty, depending on your lie) trees. The first hole is the No. 1 handicap hole, a long 409-yard par-4 from the back tees. The hole is mostly straight, but trees create a tight fairway.
The par-5 second hole features a nice wall of trees on each side of the fairway. At the 482 yards, the green could be reachable in two for big hitters. The snafu? A pond sits directly in front of the green, taking a big bite out of your boldness of that second shot. It's wise to play short of the pond and have a short shot onto the green where you will still be putting for birdie.

The course is quite interesting in some spots with natural hills and water hazards. There are other sections of the course that are pretty mundane, with three or four holes running parallel to each other. Be on the lookout for errant shots from other holes!

Some golfers might appreciate the course for its rustic charm while others are turned off by the less-than-stellar conditions. You'll find some crabgrass on the greens, bald spots on the fairways. The course is always busy, so the local golfers don't seem to mind.

Play a round with a cart for just $22 on most days, a deal that really can't be beat in the area. The club is also home to a popular restaurant, well known for its prime rib, no-filler crab cakes and – you guessed it – frog legs. Look for special events on the pretty outdoor patio like Carnitas and Cocktails. Word on the street is that the carnitas are pretty "especial."

Will you be overwhelmed by Frog Rock Golf and Country Club? Probably not, but it seems like being overwhelmed is pretty overrated these days.

If you are looking for high brow golf, keep going. That said, for a fun, low pressure day knocking the ball around, Frog Rock is your place. Sort of the Wild West of golf courses! Some holes are interesting, some are plain but overall a fun round at a good price. Check out the scramble league in the Spring/Summer, 9 holes and a very good buffet. The guys and women that play are very friendly.

Having read the reviews on Frog Rock, I decided to go check it out for myself. I am 17 handicapper so I have played some golf, but would not classify myself as a course expert.

Here is my reviews about this course. Yes, the course could use some work and yes there were some spots on the course that needed more water and yes a few of the carts could have used some sweeping out. However...that being said I and the two other people I played with had a great time on this course. The course is very interesting and has some of the nicest scenery in South Jersey. The course reminds one of some of the courses in Scotland...very rustic and not overly groomed. This is the way the foundering fathers of golf played the game. Anyone who plays this course will agree...it is an outstanding value for the money and as a bonus...the people are very nice who work there. In fact, make sure you stop in for a drink after your round (or before) and say hi to the owner and his daughter (Kristin). They are incredibly nice and made us feel right at home. My friends and I had never played there before and will return again and again. Do yourself a favor..go check it out...you will have fun and get in yet another round of golf.

I know the course is not that great, but it is only around $20 to ride and play even during the summer. The price can not be beat. It is a good course to just practice on. For someone who isn't serious but just wants to play a fast cheap game, Frog Rock is the place to go.

This course isn't worth $10 and they charge over $30 for the weekend rate. Hands down the worst place I've ever played golf. If I could give this 0 stars all the way down I would. You can't drive the cart without being covered in dust from the sandy cart paths. There is literally no fairways. The greens are burnt and patchy all year round. The carts always have sand and trash in them. There is no difference between the 'fairway' area and 'rough', it's like playing golf in an open field of untouched grass. No cards on this course, only cash. You can't even get a good lie in the tee boxes at this place. $31 for a weekend rate in December or July. Please if you're ever in the area save your money and go play mini putt somewhere.

Most people have covered it, but since I write a review on all courses I play here's mine. $20 for green fee with cart can not be beat. They actually should charge a little more and reinvest that money into the maintainance which is in tremendous need. They don't have logo balls so that isn't a plus either. Overall this course gets a C+ rating primarily for the price.

This course is terrible. The fairways are nonexistant. I witnessed first hand their fall 'aeration', and it explained a lot. There is potential here, but not unless someone pours serious money into the course. I will not be coming back.
