South Ridge Golf & Pub, South Sioux City, NE

This was our first visit to South Ridge golf course, we were scouting for a place to have our yearly corporate shoot out. The golf course was in rough shape and way too open, but a great value for those who are new to the game. It reminded me of a barefoot course we played in Alaska built in a large field. The club house was small with no driving range set-up! They have a huge dome that was a driving range? But the owners lease that part of the course out to another business and they now use the dome for parties, groups, etc. Certainly a waste of space. Why they don't use the dome as a driving range? No idea. But it is a real dissapointment for the golfers that want to practice or warm-up their swing. There is no Pro Shop? They have a sliding glass door off of there bar with an empty counter and maybe one sleeve of balls. We also want to mention that they had a bartender that was really slow and very,very rude! His name was Carl. We took a seat away from the bar and the tables were all empty except the one we sat at. We watched Carl, who stood and talked to the 5 people sitting at the bar who were all over intoxicated!! They all new Carl and were so loud and obnoxious we couldn't block out the foul languge, slurred voices, etc. We sat and watched as a woman came in the bar, she walked around the bar and gave Carl a kiss. Carl went back in what we found out to be the kitchen and returned with a large pizza box, he gave the woman the pizza and she quickly left without paying? Another question? Does everyone get free food? Or only family of the bartender? Strange! Anyways after what seemed like forever and all of the activity above, Carl came to our table. He made us feel like we were not welcome and after he returned with our two beers and collected the money he returned to his 5 drunk pals at the bar. So, if you don't sit at the bar, don't expect service! We were shocked at the amount of liquor he poured for his friends, about 5 to 1 in the short time we were there. I can't believe that he was over serving at those levels but you could tell his friends were used to it. We have played golf all over the country and this was a real bad experience. Carl never asked us if we wanted another beverage and at that point? We could care less. We overheard his intoxicated patrons laughing about someone who had driven a golf cart into the bar, people stealing golf carts, etc. We did not find this type of conversation to be proper on a golf course. It's a shame there is no Mgmt. Employee's are a direct reflection of your business and they should take pride in there work and focus on customer service. We will not be doing future business with South Ridge due to our experience in the bar with Carl. That is a big loss for them because our local business has over 400 local employees and a constant stream of out of town executives. We also found out the owners are rarely present and they also own another local golf course called Covington. We highly reccomend that you don't do business with either course until they clean up the staff. When we golf we like to think the workers at least care about the course. This is not the case with South Ridge. No Pro Shop, No Driving Range, Poor Conditions, Cart Problems and really intoxicated patrons. They use and depend on (1) employee to run the entire golf course. And if you want to play a round? Well, you have to go to the bar. Want food or drinks? Well, you have to go to the bar. Want a cart? You have to go to the bar. If you want anything? You will have to go to the bar. And for us and our experience with Carl. Don't waste your time or your money unless your an alcoholic and sitting at the bar. Get some employees and utilize the space you have. Turn your property into a golf course. Good Luck!!
