The 18-hole "Nonesuch River" course at the Nonesuch River Golf Club facility in Scarborough, Maine features 6,300 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70. Designed by Thomas Walker, the Nonesuch River golf course opened in 1968.
I like the course. Challenging enough for me without being a chore to get a decent score. Greens are very nice. Staff was outstanding from the person in the pro shop to the maintenance crew. One of the mowing guys helped me understand the layout of a fairway. Bring your bug spray if you are playing early.
Seems the reviews of Nonesuch are a little harsh. This is a great little course at a reasonable rate for it's quality. I'd call it upscale without the added expense of a must play course. Getting on can be a chore as they regularly fill the tee slots. It's a very walkable course with excellent greens and good upkeep. As far as amenities go, they have everything I need but they could use a better pub menu. Having a beer on the deck overlooking the 9th and 18th holes makes for a great end of a round. If you're in southern Maine and want a good round without feeling you've paid for show, this is the one.
