Course Reviews

Really well maintained course with generous fairways, but really interesting choices off the tee. Fun shots over water requires weighing the risk-reward. Terrific finishing hole. I usually play during the week so it's almost never crowded. I've heard the weekend has 5+ hour rounds. My gal and I usually finish in about 3 hours during the week. Everyone plays fast. Nice course. Great value!

For the end of winter in Chicago, this course was in very good shape, especially the contoured greens. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The bigger screen GPS on the carts really helps. Variety on every hole, but not hilly. Lots of sand, and traps are the calling card. They need some attention, but lots of rain in prior days could be much of the reason for that. Had a great time, will be back!

Awesome course to play during the week here is another review http://theurbangolfer.net/course-reviews/

Great Course, giant greens. Superbly maintained. This is dedinitely one of the nicest courses on the Southside. Can be a bit of the pain to check in if you haven't played their before.

I had the pleasure of playing George Dunne last week, and wow...what a place. There aren't many places in the Chicagoland area that give you the same experience for the price. Word of warning: it's a tough course. There's sand everywhere; 63 bunkers in play, I believe. I had a great time, however, my biggest complaint is that the pace of play is terribly slow. I echo everyone else's sentiments and say get an early tee time. It took my foursome (I went to play by myself, but there were so many people there they paired me with three other guys) almost six hours to play eighteen, so be prepared to wait to tee off...or hit your next shot. With that said, I still thoroughly enjoyed my round here. It's a challenge, and worth every penny. Even though it kicked my butt, I'll definitely be back. Side note: I think the bunkers on the back nine are being repaired right now. The front was excellent, but the back are giant mud pits (though it had just rained.) Other than that...play here! Or don't, so it's less crowded.

This course is a true test, so be careful when selecting your tee boxes. The Park District has done a nice job of bringing the maintenance level back to previous levels. George Dunne can become a real beast is the wind is howling.

Such a wonderful layout, with very few similar shots if any. BUT, the pace of play is atrocious. The last two times I played it, we were late in teeing off with no weather related problem and the round was 5 Hrs 15 +/-. No marshall and apparently no concern that the pace is so slow... The greens are nice but the golfers do not fix pitch marks on the course. It is amazing to me that the superintendant does not make the greens real hard to combat the poor maintenance by golfers. I will play again but only as one of the first few groups off.

George Dunn National was an absolute gem! I live in Florida and have had this on my list to play for 20 years. I played at the end of July 31, 2008 first tee time in the morning and will tell you that I am an absolute stickler for course conditions and a staff that will be straight up. The staff advised that the course was in "darn good" shape when I called to reserve. The course was a 9 of 10, GREAT layout with many pin locations on the fabulously contoured, very fast greens. Tee's, fairways and bunkers were in great shape and the golf course is just a beautiful traditional must play. Anyone that doesn't enjoy this place doesn't get the game. I will play it again when I return to Chicago for sure!

Played first time last weekend. Layout is fabulous and difficult. Only truly aggravating issue was some severely ball marked greens. I know it's not completely the staff's fault, but still. The last two holes are rediculously impossible. All in all, great course though.

Ah, if one could only go 20 years back in time when this track was really well kept. The bunkers (although currently undergoing treatment) are horrible and the greens are very bumpy here and there. Rates have risen (thank you Todd Stroger) be sure to go online to get latest coupons. What a shame for such a nice layout!!

Could use a little work on a green or two, but otherwise a fine course. This course was used in 2007 as the Illinois qualifier for the tournament at Oakmont.

Great Layout but Rough Around the Edges

Old Fashion Golf! No houses, sidewalks, joggers, lawnmowers. Fairways, greens and God's green trees. In 2007 some bunkers were being renovated for drainage - otherwise, the course and greens (fast) were in respectable condition. This track takes a little getting used to... having a local in the group (thanks Jimbo!) is good the first time around. The angles on the forced carries to setup the doglegs were a little tricky. I wish there was a yardage book! This course is challenging, fun and fair. At forest preserve prices it is a decent value. People used to sleep in the parking lot to play this place (formerly known as Forest Preserve National).
