While The Pelican Golf Club is a private course open to members and their guests only, many Tampa and St. Petersburg residents are familiar with the track, or at least the location, as it was formerly a town-owned course, and a Donald Ross gem, that went by the name of Belleview Biltmore Golf Club. The father-son duo of Dan Doyle Sr. and Jr., bought the course in 2017, rebuilt the facilities, renovated the golf course and gave it the current name. After creating the exclusive Pelican Golf Club, the Doyles also lured the LPGA Tour to The Pelican, where the Pelican Women’s Championship is played every year since 2020. Olympic Gold Medalist Nelly Korda won the 2021 Pelican Women’s Championship. The Pelican is a pristine 7,000-yard 18-hole layout with a par 70. The course was originally designed by Donald Ross, with a restoration completed by Beau Welling as the course transitioned from Belleview Biltmore to The Pelican. The restoration of the course included the addition of a newer strain of grass, Latitude 36 Bermudagrass. The strain is utilized to keep the grass greener longer into the winter than other courses, ensuring pristine playing conditions year-round. The course rating is 71.9 and has a slope of 124. The Pelican Golf Club has an exclusive membership which reportedly consists of 250 golf members and another 50 national members.
