Course Reviews

Very Good Course layout especially for the Price/Courteous. Pretty open, fairly long, some water, and will test you, I love it. Love all the Wonderful Wildlife Birds too.

the course has beautiful views and a very friendly staff but its greens are fairly slow... the course itself is in pretty good shape now and is the municipal course in the area

Alittle pricey for a city course not maintained amazingly well. It was a tough course for me as a new golfer because even though it seems wide open, the rough was completely unforgiving. Greens were so slow it felt more like putting from the fairway. Greens also seemed to have alot of "nics", "spots", and not repaired divots. The scenery was great. The course was maintained ok but not great. The traps and rough were well maintained but difficult for a new golfer. Overall, the green fees were out of range of the quality of the course. Drop them to the $35 range, and i'll play there again.

This course was completely refurbished and is a great round of golf for a city owned course. Club house and Pro Shop are bare bones. Good value!

This is a beautiful municipal course and a jewel in the Virginia-Beach-tourism crown: Very close to the Oceanfront, it is well maintained, large greens, and wide-open fairways. There are no houses or condos which crowd the fairways on so many other local courses.
The clubhouse is a typical muni: basically a snack bar with limited pro shop and restrooms. There are very few bunkers, maybe ten or so. However, many holes feature water -- overall a nice loop. I play this course regularly on Sundays. Admittedly, however, this course represents the slowest pace of play in Virginia Beach. Last weekend, eighteen holes took almost five and one half hours. It is not always this bad, but usually close.

I liked the course ok. They won't let genes on the course, I guess to keep up apearances, but they will put out port-a-johns, to bring down apearances

This is a pretty course after the refurbish last year. Played with my Brother-in-law who is local to Va Beach, and he feels course is better. The scenery is nice, but F/A-18 Hornets from NAS Oceana flying overhead may disturb some. The greens were VERY nice, if not a little fast. Even the putting green was immaculate. As said by tnelson, no beverage cart/snack wagon, and the "clubhouse" is more of a small snack bar, but the beer they sell is cold! This course is in very nice condition for a muni, I just wish that people would fix their ball marks on the greens more as those were the only blemishes on the greens. A real nice golf experience at a great rate. Would play again when in Va Beach.

Early Fall Round

While my entrepid groups of duffers waited with great anticipation for the grand re-opening of Red Wing, we frequently called the VB Parks and Recs folks to only be dissappointed each time with the same message, "the Opening date has been pushed back two to three weeks...". When we finally got the news we've been waiting for, we booked two rounds on a Friday and that Saturday. Overall the fairwys are very forgiving but the nurmerous water hazards on the front nine, especially number six, were a bear. Not for the layout of those holes but because of the biblical swarms of mosquitoes and gnats. All in all for the $25.00 US for eighteen a good bargain for the money. My groups biggest negative was the lack of beverages on the snack wagon (water from a cooler only) and questionable distances on 5, 9, and 14. All played a lot longer than yardage indicators stated.
