This is a challenging course. Uneven lies and hills. The course will force you to become a better striker of the ball or ELSE! It will make you a much better player in the long run. Limited funds for upkeep but they do a decent job. And they are constantly making small improvements. The beer is cold and the people are great. Laid back atmosphere and no tee times needed! Very affordable for the whole family.
Essex Golf Club has a challenging 9 hole course with mostly uneven lies. It's enjoyable because it can improve one's game offering you difficult situations to conquer and the rewarding feeling that comes from experience that will help your game anywhere. Memberships and green fees are affordable and the people are great. Men's night is always a great time as is ladies night. They offer a steak or hamburger dinner.
Played this course many times. Difficult because of the many changes in elevation and a couple of holes have doglegs. Maintenance for this course is not very good but for the price of the green fees it's not too bad. I would recommend playing this course if you like a challenge.
Tough course when I played it. Was originally an 18 hole but they could only maintain 9. Not one of the better courses in the area but they have THE best men's stag night on Thursday that I've ever attended. They know how to enjoy what they have. Very laid back and friendly like most courses in this part of Iowa.
