The 9-hole "YMCA" course at the First Tee Hampton Roads facility in Virginia Beach, Virginia features 1,689 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 27. Designed by Pete Dye/Alice Dye, the YMCA golf course opened in 2002.
Course has been re-routed as an executive course. It is good for youth, newcomers to the game and a place to work on your fundamentals. Easy to walk. Lacks really good sand bunkers and has small greens lacking challenging slopes. I have to remind myself the purpose of this layout- provide a course that does not pose imposing challenges and allows for quick, walkable play. If the course ownership (the YMCA of VAB) had access to the non-developed acreage surrounding 'Lake Alice', future expansion and redesign would permit it to grow into a true regulation size nine hole facility. That is something that this area solely lacks, especially with last year's closure of Owl's Creek, which could of reduced its acreage to focus on nine good-length holes instead of closing its doors permanently. That was a shame for beach residents.
great course for beginners but VB National is better
