Course Reviews

Not a bad course but the staff isn't very friendly...AT ALL. First I made a tee time for a Thursday
( first time so I asked the cost ) and it poured so I called and changed it to Friday. When I got there I was told the price went up 33% on the "weekend"....BUT ... I should be happy because that is a Spring rate ( last day for that) and it was going up to $78 starting the next day....would have been nice if I was told when changing the tee time and wasn't made to feel "privileged" to play their course for such a "steal"
Believe me...for that price play Red Tail.
THEN...we made the turn and ordered cold sandwiches...you would have thought we asked for a 4 course meal! With a frown they told us " You should have called ahead NOW we'll have to bring them out to you" (which they dumped on the cart seat without a word or a smile or a good sandwich for that matter)....as if it was our fault they don't have the sense to pre-make a few cold sandwiches.... and if they didn't JAM the tee times so close together we might have had a little more time. Good thing none of us needed to use the Men's room!
So, not a bad course...just a lousy staff.

ASSAULTED AT BUTTER BROOK!
I golfed here about a little over a month ago with my husband, father and brother. On the 18th hole, my brother hit his tee shot on to the neighboring fairway. He drove his cart to his ball not realizing until after he hit his second shot that he was past the “no carts” signs on that fairway. He immediately returned to the cart path. It was an honest mistake and no harm done. At this time a member who had been watching us from the clubhouse patio walked down to us and proceeded to SCREAM within inches of my brother’s face. A couple of the choice phrases he used: “You should have seen the f**king signs!”, “I’m a member here and I’m going to report you to the course manager and if I ever see your f**cking face here again I’m going to punch your f**cking face in!”.
After we finished our round we immediately reported it to Peter Maki, the course pro, and pointed out the offending member. Peter showed genuine concern, gave us his information and told us to contact him any time so he could “make things right”. Well, we have tried to contact Peter four or five times since then and we have yet to receive a response. Actions speak louder than words and his lack of action to our repeated inquiries speaks to the character of Butter Brook, which runs counter to the spirit of the game of golf (self-discipline, honesty, and integrity). I refuse to spend another dime at this place or recommend it to anyone. If you choose to patronize them, be on the lookout for a tall guy with black hair and an unusually black (likely dyed) mustache with anger management issues. He seems to think it is appropriate to approach and make threats to a group of golfers (one that included a senior citizen and a woman). And the management seems to think an appropriate course of action to a serious offense on their grounds is to just ignore it and hope it goes away.

Very Nice Course. Challenging. Narrow front nine. Beautiful links style back nine.

Maintenance is excellent. Had to use 90 deg rule even though everything was dry and hard. Greens were real quick but didn't seem to break much. Interesting variety in holes. Some water to play over.

After deciding to get"serious" about my game, Butterbrook was high on my list for regular outings..that is until I started playing there weekly. For the 3rd time in 2 months I've shown up for a prebooked tee time (single) to find myself booked with a 4some or not at all! What is truly frustrating is that the proshop has twice taken my money given me a slip for the starter and sent me on my way to the tee box and disappointment. The course is maintained well enough, especially when you consider what appears to me to be an excess of ignorant players unwilling to repair a ball mark, replace a divot or rake a trap. The high fees should be keeping more yahoos away but it is a prime location in a wealthy area. The search continues...

Played in April'07. Got online tee time for 6AM. When I got there, the pro shop said I had to play the back 9. OK, no problem. Then the pro shop informed me that they don't allow walking the back. Doesn't say that on their website. Knew it was $35 for a weekday 9 holes (way over priced), then forcing you to pay for a cart, now that really p...ed me off. I have told all my golfing friends to skip BUTTer Brook. Not worth the $.

Butter Brook is the best kept golf secret in New England

LOVE this course! This is a GEM that's not very far from anywhere.

The last 7 holes are COMPLETELY different from the front 11. The wind changes due to the lack of trees. Giant waste bunkers next to the fairways open up serious risk/reward situations.

It's EXTREMELY well kept and the staff is friendly. They have a small snack shack for burgers, etc. and the food is ok.

Great practice range, unfortunately it's all mats.

This is my favorite public course in Massachusetts and the money makes it a great value.

Cancellation policy needs to change

A reservation change from 3 to 2 players should not warrant having to pay full price for all 3 players. This inflexibility has consequently forfeited business from 3 golfers. Decidedly more via word of mouth.
