Every summer for twenty years I have brought a group of golfers with hdcps from 5 to 25 up North to play Michigan golf courses. Last August we played Lochenheath.
What a wonderfully designed, playable and well conditioned course! And of the over 40 courses we have played, there is only one other course in Michigan where we have been treated as well.
The driving range and practice area was among the top two or three in the state.
And the course! Mike Husby and his associates have done all golfers in Michigan a service by bringing this five star course back from the dead. Some of my players were wary knowing it had been out of service so long. Their fears were entirely unfounded as the tees, fairways and green complexes were up to the highest standards. The course is laid out on a heavily rolling site with uphill and downhill holes galore, great views on a number of the downhills but there are no severe slopes. There are numerous memorable holes, but I liked #8, an elevated par three to a long angled green. The greens are visible for approaches and the putting surfaces are true. One of our best golfers says he still imagines a number of the holes when he goes to the range to practice.
If you have a group or just a foursome, do not miss playing Lochenheath.
It is located just west and just a couple of miles north of Grand Traverse Resort. I guarantee you will find the selection of hole types exceptional and enjoy playing it more if you choose to play there.

Exceptional Course and great value. Good risk/reward ratio, greens are fast and true. Play early so you can get in 36 holes.

Had a chance to play the other day even though it is not open. Course has been closed for two years, it looked real bad in June. I could not believe how good it is 4 months later. WOW. What an amazing job the staff is doing in their efforts to get the course open next Spring. I will be one of the first to play in April when it opens to the public. What a great golf course!
