Avery Ranch Golf Club, Austin, TX

Avery Ranch is one of the best golf courses in Austin for the mid-handicap golfer. You've got to be able to control you tee shots or you'll get penalized by the rough - which is really tough. Also, there are several good approach shots that are visually stunning as the landscape is really nice. Keep your eye out for some tee time deals on GolfLink to save you on those overpriced green fees!

First problem was we had to wait 5 or 6 minutes for a cart. Since I only alloted myself about 5 or 6 minutes to hit balls I had to skip hitting a few before I teed off. The fairways were in great condition and the rough was thick. The greens were a big disapointment. They were slow and bumpy and had 2 to 5 big dead spots on just about every green. The layout was nice and it defintely had a Texas hill country vibe to it. The potential for nice views was there, but where the hill country use to be is now covered in huge apartment buildings (not really their fault). The cart lady came by often, but no sandwichs on the cart only quick snack food. Though, they did have a phone on the 9th tee box to call in your food orders and you could use the GPS to call in orders. The food was ready at the turn and the service was good. The GPS was neat, but the yardages it gave seemed to be off more than they were on. It is defintely an above average public course, but for a course that is ranked as the best in Austin it was a little disappointing (especially the greens). Played Teravista earlier and the week and was more impressed with that course.
