It's early in the year, but the course is in great shape so far. They made some changes to the layout and added a few traps to make it even more challenging, but still it's a relatively short track in my opinion.

Perhaps that's the one thing I like most about this place... It's a great course to walk and you get a much better feel for your game if you're able to do that. On a nice spring day, you'll get lots of sun and fresh air as the steam from the cooling towers always blows away from the course ;).

As for the negative comments regarding the fairways, this was probably in regard to when they were under repair last season. Honestly, I'd be pissed too if I encountered this myself, but it was a necessary evil in order to restore the course to the condition it's in now.

Highly recommended.

NOTE: Joshua Ryan, a 10 year old from Norristown, plays this course frequently. He finished 3rd place in the Augusta National first Drive, Chip and Putt Championship on April 6th. He's primed to be a PGA Tour sensation from our area (in a few years).

This is a nice course -- not among the best, but certainly better than quite a few others in the area. I've always found the conditions to be good, and the holes are generally well designed -- not the most memorable, but not cookie-cutter boring either. As mentioned by others, adjacent holes do run close to each other, resulting in not infrequent ducking from curve balls from other groups. This set-up, though, does provide additional open space for recovery shots -- though some of the holes are narrow, it's possible to hit the green in regulation even if you curve your drive into an adjacent fairway. Though not the most challenging course around, some of the holes are "sneaky tough," so this isn't just a walk in the park either. This combination makes it a fun course to play -- if you're hitting it well that day, you'll score well; if you're not at your best that day, the course will punish you, but it won't wring your neck.

Misinformed reviewers

Yes, I agree with the two previous reviews - the course was poorly maintained in August of 2006. Unfortunately you played there right after the pump from the irrigation system had broken and was not yet replaced, which coupled with the August heat, dried out a lot of the greens and fairways. I can say now the conditions are getting close to what they traditionally are, which is a tight shot makers golf course with quick greens. If you want to stay at Walnut Lane then do so - that's more tee times and less crowdedness for me - enjoy hitting all your tee shots on par 3's off of driving range mats.

Overall I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The greens were choppy and not very well maintained. The fairways were even worse. There were patches of mud/dirt everywhere and you just get the sense that they don't pride themselves on properly maintaining the course. Granted it's been a harsh summer in terms of rain but this was easily one of the more poorly maintained courses I've played this year. Also the price definitely does not match the quality of the course course. I put it in the $25 to $30 range but not $50. I'll skip this one in the future.

New ownership is great

I went to this course for the first time on 6/23/07. The new ownership that is taking this course over is doing great. They are trying to upgrade all of the amenities, and the head pro was very pleasant. The course is a little tight, and the fairways run very cloe to each other. We went on a Saturday morning and there was no one there. The pro shop said that Saturday mornings are the time to play there.

Just wanted to say how disappointed I am with this course. I played there on Sept. 23rd for the first time in many years and it was in terrible shape. Some of the tee boxes were just all dirt, and many of the fairways you couldn’t even tell you were in a fairway they were so filled with crab grass. This used to be a nice course but it has gone downhill fast. Needless to say I won’t be paying $50 dollars to play there again.

I went to this place on Saturday during Memorial Day Weekend. Place was way overbooked. I was expecting it to be busy but this was rediculous. I wasn't in a rush but the people that were working the course were rushing everyone so you had about 6 to 8+ people playing the same hole. They didn't know how to manage the crowd. My advice is to not go on the weekends.

Hack City

THis course is very tight. I reccomend hitting a lot of long irons unless you are a straight shooter with your driver. THe course was also full of hacks as I was almost hit twice while putting with no "fore warning". Play at dusk if you must play as it will be less of a crowd. The greens were in good shape and play fast.

Good public course. Fairways and green are usually in good shape. The course is a little tight in some spots so you have to watch for balls from other tee's and fairways. They just opened two new holes this summer which are nice. A usual stop during the summer golf season.

The course is in decent shape. Tight fairways - get ready to yell fore alot. Reduced rate starts after 2 PM. Overall it is an average course.

Bring your helmet! I had balls flying at me from every direction all day long. Yardage markers seemed to be pretty inaccurate also.

Best hot dogs around, course is in good shape. You do need to be alert threw your round because balls fly all over the place.
