True Mountain Golf

While its true that there is a lot to be desired at this course, there is also much to be said for the simplicity of it all. Our visit was May 14, 2007. We were greeted by one of the nicest people I've met, charged $16 each to ride 9 holes, shown to the cart and where we'd find the first tee. The cart itself was a brand-spanking new electric. From the very first tee box (all of which are quite small), you'll be impressed with the scenery. The first hole is a big dropping wide open shot to a very small green. I'll add thet all of the greens are quite small, but still manage to incorporate some interesting breaks. The greens were in pretty good shape on this day and the cups were all full of water. Speaking of water, it comes into play on a few holes on the front, but the biggest challenge is where to put your tee shot on the huge, wide open fairways. There aren't any traps to contend with. You just have to play target golf. It's tempting to pull driver on a few of the front nine, but you rarely need it. The elevation changes are phenomenol, first going uphill and down the next. I plan on returning very soon when I have more time to play the full 18. It is not very far from exit 24 off of I-40. This course will test your mental game and keep you entertained!

My wife and I were in Waynesville for a little “r & r”…rest and recreation. Golf was to be part of the four day stay. After playing an enjoyable 18 holes at Lake Junaluska one day, we decided to take the road less traveled and find Iron Tree Golf Course. At first glance, we knew it would be an adventure. The course is back in a development with beautiful homes. However, the course presented a bit long in the tooth. The course is somewhat ill defined and the pathways need work. BUT BOY DID WE HAVE FUN! The design of the course and elevation on every green made the day and game so challenging and exciting- especially the 525 yard three hundred foot elevated 5th hole….and the 8th hole with the elevated green with a serious sloping hill surrounding it, ending with a scenically elevated tee to green finishing hole. Yes, the greens need work and the pathways made more secure, but the new owner is working day and night to make this happen. If you are up for an enjoyable and challenging round of golf, try Iron Tree out and the price is right! We will be returning next year to see the impact of the renovations.

No Sand Traps

I Say no Sand traps but go off the green on several holes and its a good 50 foot drop and 40 Yard roll.. can you say elevation change?.. this course was so beautiful and Green on March 23rd.. now this is not a course with perfect greens and smooth fairways but the scenery was just beautiful.. 2 holes run right beside the Pigeon river which im sure has many a water sacrifice...plenty of room for wild drives on most holes..and is definatly 4x4 golf cart action.. no smooth cart paths here with many just dirt ending into the Fairway.. this early in season was only $15 on the weekday.. Very friendy People..I think i would have a hard time when the trees turn green as the beauty would be overwelming..let alone in the Fall when it would be awsome... Many elevated greens as well as multi-tiered greens...its the Beauty here that makes it a you gotta go once at least if your in the area.. let alone the great Value....use care driving in as the 1 lane 2way road 1/2-3/4 mile leading to clubhouse you really need to go slow and watch for other cars as well as golf carts

This is just an average economy course. It's nothing special, but then again for $22 what would you expect. The holes themselves are challenging, but not overly complicated. The cart paths are non-existent, some serious work is needed in that department. From tee to front of green the course is ok. The greens need some work, specifically more routine mowing. Of 9 greens 6 were recently cut, the other three posed quite a obstacle, which resulted in some atrocious 3 putting. It's a double 9 course, so don't let some information out there confuse you. Play 9 holes to knock the rust off before going to better courses in the area.

This has got to be the biggest POS golf course in the world. I paid 6 dollars for me and my girlfriend who wasnt playing just wanted to ride with me. I let her out after 5 holes and he wanted me to get in one cart and i told him i would if i got a refund on my 6 dollars. The owner proceeded to come to us on the 6th tee box and tell me i had to give up my cart after i had already paid the fee for 2 carts. He cussed me out and told mei was never allowed back on the course. He was very rude and i would tell everybody to never go play there. Unless you like getting cussed and treated like a dog.

This had to have been the biggest POS course I have ever played on. You have to worry about getting driven into from all sides (fairways, tee boxes, and greens all run together). First timers will not have a CLUE on what green they are hitting to or where the next hole is. The fairways look like rough and the greens are, at best, like fairways. The had to have been the biggest waste of $25 ever. You get what you pay for.
