I'll be playing Sherwood in November. Looking forward to it as this will be my first time at Sherwood.

Alvin Z is right, the course isn't trickey but it's very tough to score low here. Beautiful golf course and this has to be one of Nicklaus' best designs. Maintenance was excellent. Gotta be a Top-10 locker room. Members were VERY friendly towards me including several celebrities. GREAT golf course, great experience! Very private but you have to figure out a way to get on. I would rank this course 3rd in SoCal behind LACC and Riviera and then Sherwood. Sherwood plays tougher than Riviera but Riv has the history. Sherwood is the home of the Tiger Woods World Challenge played in December every year.

Every hole is memorable and this is a must play in SoCal.

I've played this course a couple of times, and I look forward to playing it again, but it is definately one of the toughest I've played. The wierd thing is that it's pretty straightforward and doesn't appear to be as tough as it plays but it really is very challenging and tough to score on.

Great Nicklaus design

Great course overall with a wonderful - use every club in the bag - layout. Criticisms: Membership and staff somewhat pretentious, which seems to work for a course so close to Hollywood and the jet set. I remember trying to strike up a conversation with a member and receving a cold hard stare for the effort. On this note, there is a locally famous story of PGA tour pro Steve Pate hitting balls on the range and, after being told that he was not a member, Castle and Cooke Dole Pinapple guy himself, Mr. David Murdoch had him removed from premises. The clubhouse is a little "kitschy" too, with too much white paint and patterned carpet. (New England does not work in So. California.) Reminded me of Vegas first time I saw it. A few holes with bizzare layouts, including the famous hole with rocks in the middle of the fairway.
Strengths: Used to be home to Greg Norman's Shark Shootout, until TV ratings forced it to FL. Overall, a terrific layout and well conditioned course. Nicklaus signature course. Great fast greens. A few "world class" holes. A great challange from the tips. If you get a chance, play it!
