Played here last year and really enjoyed it so we went back. The rates are much lower now and the place is in receivership. The course remains a great challenge, but was in relatively poor condition, financial issues I assume. Not many players around and sparse staff in the pro shop and in the snack bar.

This is such a great course in such a wonderful setting it will be a disaster if it goes under, but I am worried it might. Play it while you can.

Tight course with many elevation changes. Great greens. There isn't a true driving range and that's a major negative. You have to be extremely accurate. You won't use your driver much but you'll use your long irons and woods. Like everyone says, target golf. Overall a very pretty course and a decent amount of wildlife. I personally have seen bobcats, coyotes, lots of different birds, etc.. Truly a gem in San Diego.

We played on the first Monday of aeration week, so we had to play the back 9 twice at a reduced rate. Target golf, lots of blind t-shots with longish forced carries. Pretty scenery.

Excellent test of Target golf

This is the first short golf course that I have ever found to be a real challenge. The scorecard doesn't show it, but this is a true shotmakers course. You have to be able to put the ball where you want it as spraying it will have you teeing up another one. The ability to work the ball both ways is a definite advantage. The penalty for a missed shot is severe and the par 3's are especially challenging. Almost every hole has elevation changes and doglegs abound. There is plenty of water and sand. Lots of visual intimidation, blind tee shots, forced carries, exposure to crosswinds off the tee, and very few bailout areas. The greens slope off the sides and are well bunkered. The views are nothing short of spectacular. The course is kept in good shape overall. The sand is consistent and the greens have lots of subtle breaks. The green speed is a bit slow, but then if they were fast this would be an extremely difficult course. This course will teach you how to play for position off the tee as the fairways are narrow and tree lined. There is an obvious lack of a driving range to warm up on, but they do have a nice chipping green and some nets to hit into if you want to loosen up before your round. Walking is not an option on this course as there are several hundred yards between tees. Leave the driver in the bag except on the par 5's, a 230yd club is perfect from the back tees on most of the holes. I was pleasantly surprised with my round and would recommend this course to the better player as the higher handicap player will struggle.
