This course is sometimes referred to as the "Poor Man's Pebble Beach". It comes by the name honestly. Superb views, excellent maintenance and a challenging track make for an extremely enjoyable round. Couple that with green fees at or below 50 bucks and you have an excellent value. One cautionary note: Unless you are really fit go ahead and spring for a cart rental for your first round. The course is built on the side of a mountain and there are significant grade changes making for a challenging walk! If you are in the area don't pass the opportunity to play this one.

They call this the poor man's Pebble Beach. I wouldn't go that far. Pacific Grove Muni should have that distinction. However, this course does have some beautiful scenery. It overlooks the bay. I think I read greens pretty well. The greens here gave me fits. I had trouble all day. Overall, this track is a great value. I would recommend....

THE FOG IS HORRIBLE!!! Other than that, a great place to play. The locals are great, the staff is wonderful and the bar girl was really cute. From now on, every time I go to the central coast, I will play Morro Bay.

Morro Bay

This course is a steal value wise, they call it a poor man's Pebble, and while I wouldn't go that far, it is quaint, quirky, scenic, interesting. Kikuya fairways are in reasonable condition, Poa greens are in good condition and quite tricky. It could be termed an old style golf course, more strategic, lots of short dog-leg par 4's, short par 5's, good par 3's, relatively undeveloped green complexes, not much bunkering. And here is the kicker for me you can walk this course built on the hillside of Black Mountain for $40! Complete with breath-taking views of the Coastal Region that will bring anyone back to this place. I showed up three early am's as a single had no problem getting out. If you don't mind playing with the local elderly that control the early times, this place rocks.
