First tee shots are always a little unsettling for us, but at Sheep Pasture Golf in Lillooet, they're a lot easier thanks to an appreciative audience of sheep - dozens of them - lingering around to comment on our swings. And comment they did, serenading our efforts with a chorus of b-a-a-d, b-a-a-d whenever they looked up from their assigned task of fairway mowing to observe our efforts. According to the amiable owner/manager, the sheep are "in play," but he asked us to take all pains not to hit them (he's very fond of them).

The course itself is short, very scenic and, in places, a real challenge - especially when you confuse grass clumps on the greens with the deposits of the ever-present wooly grass-chewers..."eeew...is that ewe doo on your putter?," my playing partner asked, just as I began to wipe it off with my hands. To this day (three years later) she reminds me of this.

By all means, if you're ever up near Lillooet, make sure to play nine at this course. In fact, if you're tired of the pristine courses around Whistler, make the scenic drive north to Sheep Pasture Golf - you'll never forget it. We haven't.
