The 3M Open begins this Thursday, July 23, at the TPC Twin Cities outside of Minneapolis. But before the proper tournament begins, sponsors 3M have announced a charity event called the 3M Open Compass Challenge will take place on Wednesday. The event will feature Tommy Fleetwood, playing for the first time since the pandemic, as well as Paul Casey, Matthew Wolff, and Will Gordon.
What is the Format?
The format is a classic scramble with Fleetwood and Casey teaming up to take on defending 3M Open champion Wolff and Gordon. Each player will tee off and then both players will play from the best shot. This will be repeated until each team has holed out. The game will take place on the back-9 of the TPC Twin Cities. The groups will be followed by actor Josh Duhamel and Viking legend Kyle Rudolph who will be providing live commentary and banter for viewers at home.
Money will be awarded to charities in the following way: birdies are worth $50,000, eagles are $100,000, and an ace will net a cool $150,000. There will also be 5 on-course challenges that are worth $50,000 and include both skill challenges and trivia knowledge.
What Charities will Benefit?
The following are the 8 major charities that the 3M Open has partnered with:
