While the golf world remains focused on the Open Championship taking place at Royal Portrush, the rest of the golfers on the PGA Tour will look to build momentum at the 2019 Barbasol Championship. The event is taking place this July 18-21 at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The event is considered an alternate event and is worth 300 FedEx Cup points to the winner, rather than the standard 500. It provides an excellent springboard for golfers looking to climb the table as the PGA Tour regular season winds down in 4 weeks. Despite the events alternative status, it still counts 5 former major winners in the field.
The majors champions looking to turn back the time include Y.E. Chang, David Toms, Mike Weir, Jason Dufner and fan favorite John Daly. Defending champion Troy Merritt looks to add a 3rd PGA Tour victory with a win in Kentucky. The tournament will see a number of PGA Tour Champions players, like Daly and Toms, play in the event. Other golfers playing the event from the senior tour include Kenn Perry and Steve Fish, both Kentucky natives. Many golfers, like Bill Haas, will look to use the tournament to push into the top-100 of the FedEx Cup points list. The tournament has a wide open feel to it, and the lack of real star power means that predicting a winner is nearly impossible.
The tournament will have limited coverage provided by the Golf Channel. Coverage of the first 2 rounds are Thursday and Frida, 5-9pm ET. Saturday coverage is 4-6pm ET with the final round occurring 4-7pm ET on Sunday. There is no PGA Tour Live or radio coverage available of the event.
