The Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide is and annual PGA Tour event hosted by Jack Nicklaus at his home course of Muirfield Village Golf Club near Columbus, Ohio. The tournament, one of only a handful of Invitational events on the PGA Tour, is known for its commitment to charitable giving. Two of the best known annual charity events are the Legends Luncheon and the IGS Energy Benefit Concert. Overall, the Memorial has raised more than $27 million for Ohio charities.
The Legends Luncheon was devised as a way to support the main charitable organizations of both tournament host Jack Nicklaus and sponsor Nationwide Insurance. The luncheon hosts many legends of the game and provides entertainment and excellent food to attendees. Ticket sales directly benefit the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Past special guests have included Greg Norman, Jim Furyk, Annika Sorenstam, Nancy Lopez and Nick Faldo. This year’s Legends Luncheon took place in early May and featured a conversation with Jack Nicklaus and World Golf Hall of Famer Hale Irwin. The event raised $1.25 million, the highest total yet in the eight years the event has been running. In total, the Legends Luncheon has raised over $6.4 million for children’s health.
