Golf Clubs Used by Pros

By Marc Jenkins

Choosing the right set of golf clubs could mean the difference between a joyous round of 3 under par and or a dreadful 5 over par on that same course. By knowing what clubs the pros use to keep their scores low, you may be able to pattern your clubs and shot types after theirs.

Fairway Woods

When it comes to fairway woods, many professionals choose those constructed with a stainless steel or titanium body, crown and face with a graphite shaft. These promote optimal ball flight, loft and speed. A deep and low center of gravity within the club head is also a quality that professionals look for in a good fairway wood. Callaway and Nike make some of the best fairway woods that pros use including Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Hybrids and Utility Clubs

Over the past few years, pros have been seen using more hybrids when they tee it up on tour. The pros prefer those constructed with a stainless steel face, body and crown and a graphite shaft. This club is built for a variety of situations including bunker shots, getting out of the rough, hitting long distances, etc. A variable face angle (ball loft angle) is a plus on hybrids since they are needed for so many different shot types. Clubs with variable face angles allow golfers to play shots as if the club had either a closed, open or square face angle. TaylorMade and Cobra are two fine manufacturers of hybrids and utility clubs used by Geoff Ogilvy and Camilo Villegas.

Wedges

Wedges are some of the most overlooked clubs, but professionals are ultimately familiar with their importance. That's why they only use the best. The wedges they carry are made of carbon steel or stainless steel and have steel shafts. Nike and Ping make some of the best wedges used by professionals including Anthony Kim and Angel Cabrera.
