Tim Herron is a professional golfer from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of New Mexico and turned pro in 1993. He has four PGA Tour victories, including a playoff win at the 1999 Bay Hill Invitational.

Tim Herron Career Highlights

Tim Herron was a successful amateur golfer at the University of New Mexico where he was a first-team All-American in 1992-1993. He also won the Minnesota State Amateur in 1992. In 1995, Herron played on the Nationwide Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) and made it to the PGA Tour in 1996.

Herron won three times on the PGA Tour in his first four seasons. His first victory came at the 1996 Honda Classic, where he won by three strokes over Nick Price. In 1997, Herron won at the LaCantera Texas Open. Then, in 1999, he won Arnold Palmer’s event at the Bay Hill Invitational in a playoff over Tom Lehman.

However, Herron would have to wait until 2006 to find the winner’s circle again. It came at the Bank of America Colonial where he won in a playoff over Richard S. Johnson.

Herron never won a major championship, with his best finish, a solo 6th, coming at the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Herron currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions and has not been eligible for the PGA Tour since 2012.

His career earnings are $19,382,389. Herron had great accuracy off of the tee and was viewed as one of the best fairway wood ball strikers of his day. His swing has a big finish where he snaps the club forward after completion.

Tim Herron was born on February 6, 1970. His father and grandfather (both named Carson Herron) were both professional golfers. Herron’s sister, Alissa, is also an accomplished player. She won the 1999 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur.

He was given the nickname “Lumpy” by co-workers at a golf course he was working at as an amateur. The nickname stuck with him as he progressed through his career.

Herron was born with a condition called Dupuytren's contracture, where one’s fingers become permanently bent into a flexed position.

He operates a company and website called LumpCo Golf where he sells “Lumpy” merchandise and also has beer reviews, chili reviews, and gives insight on instruction and tour news.

Herron lives with his wife (Ann) and three children (Carson, Mick, and Patrick) in Wayzata, Minnesota.
