The PGA Tour continues its “West Coast Swing” with the 2020 Genesis Invitational taking place February 13-16 at LA’s exclusive Riviera Country Club. The smaller field contains many of the best players in the world, starting with tournament host Tiger Woods and continuing with defending FedEx Cup Champion Rory McIlroy, as well as Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm.

The tournament was founded as the Los Angeles Open in 1926, and played at various LA venues. Courses that have hosted the event include the Wilshire Country Club, Inglewood Country Club, Rancho Park Golf Course and Los Angeles Country Club. The tournament has been primarily associated with Riviera Country Club, who has hosted the event 56 times and held hosting duties since 1999. The tournament is now an invitational, one of only 5 on the PGA Tour, and has a smaller field of only 120 golfers with no Monday Qualifying.
The tournament has been the site of many firsts, including the impressive showing of Babe Zaharias, who became the first woman to play in a PGA Tour event when she qualified in 1938. She would again qualify in 1945, and this time Zaharias made the cut making her still the only woman to ever make a cut in a PGA Tour event. The tournament also saw the professional debut of Jack Nicklaus in 1962, while a young Tiger Woods played his first PGA Tour event as a 16 year old amateur on a sponsor’s invitation in 1992. Past champions include 3-time winners Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, and Bubba Watson, while Macdonald Smith and Lloyd Mangrum hold the record for most wins with 4 each. Other past winners include Sam Snead, Billy Casper, Tom Watson, Phil Mickelson, and Ernie Els.
