Shane Lowry Career Highlights

Shane Lowry's accomplishments as an amateur golfer left no doubt he was poised for a successful professional career. He was on the 2007 and 2008 Irish teams that won the  European Amateur Team Championship. Competing as an amateur in Ireland in 2009, Lowry defeated Robert Rock in a sudden death playoff to win the Irish Open. This win made him only the third amateur ever to win an event on the European Tour (now DP World Tour). During the tournament, Lowry shot a 62, the lowest round ever by an amateur on the tour. The win propelled him to 168th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

One week after his win at the Irish Open, Lowry turned pro. The decision, at the time, was somewhat controversial because by turning pro, Lowry gave up his spot in the 2009 Walker Cup.

Lowry notched his first win as a professional at the 2012 Portugal Masters. The combination of a final round 67 and Ross Fisher missing a 4-foot putt on the final green gave Lowry the win.

In 2015, Lowry won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by two shots over Bubba Watson. This is when U.S. golf fans truly began noticing Lowry on the PGA Tour. He then joined the PGA Tour for the 2015-16 season.

Lowry had a serious chance at winning the 2016 U.S. Open until a less-than-stellar back nine on Sunday derailed his chances, and he finished in second place behind Dustin Johnson.

Lowry became world famoust at the 2019 British Open. His victory at Royal Portrush was made possible by a third-round score of 63, a course record. He ultimately won the event by six strokes. Lowry has won one time since that major championship, at the 2022 BMW Championship on the DP World Tour.

Shane Lowry has played on one Ryder Cup team. In 2020 he was selected with a captain’s pick by Padraig Harrington and went 1-2-0 at Whistling Straits.

Lowry’s career earnings are $18,247,892.
