Ben Crane started his collegiate golf career at Baylor University but later transferred to the University of Oregon to play golf for the Ducks. After graduating in 1999, Crane turned pro and played on the Buy.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) where he won twice. His first professional win came at the 2000 Wichita Open.

After earning his PGA Tour card for 2002, Crane needed just one year to get his first tour win at the 2003 BellSouth Classic. Crane won by four strokes over Bob Tway and the rest of the field. The following year, Crane won his second PGA Tour event at the 2004 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.

In 2007, Crane dealt with back issues which kept him from competing. In 2008, he played on a medical exemption and played well enough to retain his card for the 2009 season. 2010 proved to be a big year for Crane, as he won the Farmers Insurance Open by one stroke over Marc Leishman, Michael Sim, and Brandt Snedeker. He also posted four additional top-10s that year.

In 2011, he won the McGladrey Classic at Sea Island Resort where he defeated Webb Simpson in a playoff. Crane won once again on the PGA Tour, but not until 2014 when he went wire-to-wire to win the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

He does not have a major championship win but his best finish in a major came at the 2004 PGA Championship where he tied for 9th. Ben Crane’s career earnings total $23,036,445.

Crane has dealt with several instances on tour where he has been called out for slow play.

Ben Crane was born on March 6, 1976, in Portland, Oregon. He learned golf from his grandfather and began playing at age five. He grew up playing at Portland Golf Club, where Ben Hogan won the Portland Open in 1945.

Crane and his wife Heather have four children and live in Nashville, Tennessee.

Crane has gained attention from his involvement with the “Golf Boys,” a golf boy band with members including Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler, and Bubba Watson.
