Justin Rose Career Highlights

Justin Rose had quite the first step into golf’s spotlight when he qualified for the 1998 British Open as an amateur. He provided one of the most memorable moments in British Open history when he holed out from the rough on the 72nd hole to finish tied for fourth place. The following day, Rose announced that he was turning pro.

Succeeding in the professional ranks was far from easy for Rose, however, as he missed the cut in his first 21 events. Rose steadily climbed the ranks of the European Tour (now DP World Tour) and eventually got his first professional win at the 2002 Dunhill Championship in South Africa, the country where he was born.

Rose went on the win three more times, and in 2003, he played his way onto the PGA Tour as a non-member while also maintaining his status in Europe. He went winless, however, until 2006 when he won the Australian Masters.

After several close calls and runner-up finishes. Justin Rose finally got his first PGA Tour win at the 2010 Memorial Tournament. Rose shot a final round 66 and won by three shots over Rickie Fowler. Rose went on to win the AT&T National the following month as well.

Rose showed continued progress throughout the next two seasons, winning the 2011 BMW Championship (a FedEx Cup playoff event) and the 2012 WGC Cadillac Championship. It would all lead up to a top highlight of his career, a major championship win at the 2013 U.S. Open. Rose won the event at Merion Golf Club by two shots over Jason Day and Phil Mickelson.

Rose’s major success catapulted him to five more PGA Tour victories over the next six seasons. Along the way, Rose lost in a playoff to Sergio Garcia at the 2017 Masters, denying him a green jacket.

In 2016, Justin Rose became the first golfer to win Olympic gold in 112 years when he competed at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The silver medal went to Henrik Stenson and bronze to Matt Kuchar.

Over the years, Justin Rose has been one of the most successful players for Europe in the Ryder Cup. Rose has compiled 14 career points and has been a part of three victorious teams (2012, 2014, 2018), while being on the losing end twice (2008, 2016).

In his career, Justin Rose has won a total of $57,432,647. Many of Rose’s woes in his career have been related to swing mechanics, but in 2022 he was forced to withdraw from the 150th British Open due to a back injury.

Justin Rose is known as an exceptional ball striker with a number of short game shots at his disposal. He is often used as an example of a perfect setup as far as back, hip, and leg angles go.
