Sky Caddie Sg4 Reviews

By Eric Cornelison

SkyCaddie Sg4
Specs

The SkyCaddie Sg4 from SkyGolf weighs 5.8 oz. and comes with a screen measuring 4.7 by 2.2 by 1.3 inches. This GPS device has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a battery life of up to 12 hours, and comes with the charger and optional car charger. A water-resistant carrying case is provided along with a USB cable to hook into your computer and download what you might need. You can load up to 10 courses at a time, and the distances are given in yards or meters. The screen also shows you signal strength of the satellite, and you can select any target on the green for a yardage reading. It costs $330 as of September 2009.

Perks

A good lightweight addition to you game if you play a course that does not provide sufficient yardage information. It has been approved by the U.S. Golf Association for use at the discretion of the tournament.

Sacrifices

The cable sent with the unit to download courses is difficult to use, and it would be nice to have a hole view from the tee box. The SD RAM expansion slot does not save more than the 10 courses even though it is advertised to do this.

Bottom Line

Once you get it set up, you will find it easy to use. The yardage is pretty accurate and gives it instantly. It's not the best on the market and does not store your scores, but you have a scorecard for that.

Golf Equipment Tip of the Day

Using Frequency to Test the Flex of Your Shafts
by Jeff Jackson
What's the flex of your shafts? At one time, a golfer could safely answer that his or her shafts were stiff, regular or ladies flex. That simply isn't the case any longer. Most manufacturers have their own method of shaft measurement. What this means is that one company's "R" flex shaft may actually be softer than another's "A" or even "L" flex. How, then, can a golfer select the appropriate shaft if no manufacturing standard exists? In a word: frequency.
