Cleveland Golf Launcher Driver
Specs

Cleveland Golf deploys a balanced of line of golf clubs, targeting virtually all players. Cleveland's iron lineup consists of the CG and CG7 series as well as the Launcher Iron Combos and HiBore XLi. On the driver side, Cleveland offers the popular Launcher along with the newer HiBore Monster. Cleveland is known for ideal location of the center of gravity in its irons, while its driver line offers its largest face ever to maximize forgiveness.

Perks

With a rather extensive product line, Cleveland users can generally find equipment to match their specific needs. The CG and CG7 irons cater toward more advanced players because of to increased responsiveness and workability. Meanwhile, the Launcher Combos and HiBore XLi irons feature excellent perimeter weighting, allowing for more consistency on mishits. The highly popular Launcher driver utilizes enhanced MOI, which translates to straighter shots, while the HiBore Monster is a fully customizable series.

Sacrifices

While Cleveland has established a solid reputation, industry giants such as Callaway and TaylorMade are usually considered a notch ahead in terms of research and development. Furthermore, Cleveland has struggled at times to capture the attention of more accomplished players, particularly in the driver category, where the Launcher is its most advanced model. Cleveland's game improvement clubs often fall short compared with the competition because of its lack of focus in that area.

Bottom Line

With price points ranging from $500 to $800 on irons and $150 to $300 for drivers as of August 2009, more technologically advanced products can usually be found for a similar cost. Nonetheless, Cleveland Golf continues to introduce quality products into the marketplace, often producing excellent offerings for average players.

Golf Equipment Tip of the Day

Using Frequency to Test the Flex of Your Shafts
by Jeff Jackson
What's the flex of your shafts? At one time, a golfer could safely answer that his or her shafts were stiff, regular or ladies flex. That simply isn't the case any longer. Most manufacturers have their own method of shaft measurement. What this means is that one company's "R" flex shaft may actually be softer than another's "A" or even "L" flex. How, then, can a golfer select the appropriate shaft if no manufacturing standard exists? In a word: frequency.
